New York State Immunization Information System Not Just for Kids

As of September 8, 2009: 2.4 million patients 28.2 million immunizations 6,946 individual users 2,253 health care provider organizations 1,022 schools 1 Pharmacy Key Statistics

Electronic Data Exchange Vendors and Providers (as of 8/25/09) Data export files are being accepted from vendors/providers using electronic medical record (EMR) or billing systems. LIVE: 47 vendors serving 256 organizations (+32 in house systems) An additional 9 vendors are testing or in progress. A complete list of vendors currently working with NYSIIS is available on the NYSIIS web site under Data Exchange Information at: https://commerce.health.state.ny.us/hpn/bcdc/immunization/ nysiis_data_transfer_specs.html

Data Exchange Supporting H1N1 Adding H1N1 codes to data exchange tables Identifying additional high volume providers who would benefit from data exchange linkages H1N1 Related Enhancements Countermeasure and Response Administration (CRA) module will be added into NYSIIS (Release 1.5) Module used by 2 other WIR states Will allow collection of event/campaign info and priority group designation Will create aggregate doses administered report by age group per CDC requirements New H1N1 vaccine CPT and CVX codes being added to data tables for online data entry or electronic batch file load Scheduler modified to accommodate 2 dose schedule 28 days apart (pending results of clinical trial results)

H1N1 Vaccine Information Tracking Doses administered and inventory reporting will be a condition of H1N1vaccine receipt. Individual patient level data reporting into NYSIIS will continue to be required by LHDs & health care providers for children less than 19 years of age per State law including H1N1 vaccine doses administered. NYSIIS is strongly encouraged for providers administering H1N1 vaccine to person 19 years and older. Anticipating Governor s s emergency declaration which will suspend section of PHL 2168 and temporarily allow influenza vaccination information to be recorded in NYSIIS for adults without written consent. Provider Recruitment and Registration Central website to stream line process: https://hcsteamwork1.health.state.ny.us/pub/top.html Three necessary steps: 1. Establish Health Commerce System Account 2. Pre-register register with the Vaccine Program 3. Participate in NYSIIS Training (Enrollment)

Under Consideration: Inventory Tracking From the endpoint perspective (vaccinating organization) NYSIIS has the ability to assist with inventory tracking. Inventory info could be pre-loaded at the State level (as obtained from State vaccine/logistics group) Sites would be able to autopick from inventory list, system would decrement as doses administered, low inventory alerts could be set Reduces data entry time, potential data entry errors and increases vaccine accountability Additional Consideration: Adverse Events Tracking NYSIIS has ability to record reactions Free text field could collect adverse event info and if VAERS report was filed Potential linkage of NYSIIS immunization history data with health insurer utilization information Monitor diagnoses and id potential signals if correlated with vaccine administration i.e. Guillain-Barre Syndrome, miscarriages, etc.
