Ebata, Ph.D. ebata@illinis.edu 333-2912 Class Meetings: Tuesdays 4:00 5:30 PM (first meeting is n August 29, 2017) Curse Descriptin: This curse will prvide students with experience in (1) staffing a resurce center n autism spectrum disrders (ASDs) fr families and prfessinals wh wrk with families, (2) develping infrmatin and resurces fr families and prfessinals; (3) participating in prgrams that prvide supprts r services related t ASDs t families r prfessinals, and (4) btaining training t prepare them fr certificatin as Registered Behavir Technicians* (RBTs). As a result f this curse, participants will: 1. Develp an understanding f the missin f The Autism Prgram and becme familiar with services that are available frm TAP and ther agencies and rganizatins fr families in Champaign Cunty in rder t prvide resurce and referral services. 2. Be able t infrm lay audiences abut autism spectrum disrders, treatment ptins, and evidenceinfrmed best practices typically used by parents and prfessinals 3. Be able t create custmized picture schedules and scial stries fr families and prfessinals using the Bardmaker sftware prgram 4. Cmplete nline and in-persn training t pass the RBT* Cmpetency Assessment and be eligible t register t take the RBT exam. * The Registered Behavir Technician TM (RBT ) is a paraprfessinal wh practices under the clse, nging supervisin f a BCBA, BCaBA, r FL-CBA. The RBT is primarily respnsible fr the direct implementatin f behavir-analytic services. The RBT is ften referred t as a line therapist. In additin, interns will cmplete a series f nline learning mdules: Relias Learning: http://theautismprgram.training.reliaslearning.cm/ Curse Requirements/Expectatins: 1. Attendance at weekly class meetings is required and cunts fr 25% f the curse grade. 2. Participants must cmplete assignments n the Cmpass and Relias Learning sites and be ready t discuss tpics cvered in the assignments. Cmpletin f curse assignments by the requisite due dates cunt fr 25% f the curse grade. 3. Participants will maintain regular resurce rm staffing hurs that crrespnd t the number f credit hurs they have registered fr (see table belw). These hurs will include time staffing the Resurce Center and participating in any TAP related prgrams. In additin, interns must be available fr a certain number f Saturday shifts. Cmpletin f staffing hurs will accunt fr 50% f the curse grade. Curse Credits Meetings Staffing and Prject per Week per Week HDFS/HCD 3 1.5 hr 8hrs HDFS/HCD 4 1.5 hr 11 hrs During staffing hurs, participants will be expected t: Answer phnes and make referrals Assist visitrs t the center Maintain the resurce cllectin Keep recrds f phne calls and visits by clients Assist in develping resurces fr families r prfessinals Cmplete and submitted class assignments r assessments n Cmpass r the Relias Learning sites Participants will assist with TAP prgrams fr families and/r prfessinals. This might include scial skills prgrams fr children, wrkshps fr parents, r training fr prfessinals. 4. Mid-semester evaluatin meetings will be scheduled with each intern. 5. Additinal assessment appintments will be scheduled with Dr. Light Shriner during which participants will demnstrate RBT skills. Resurce Center Staffing Plicies On-time attendance when staffing the resurce center is required. Only absences due t medical reasns (with a dctr s nte) r family emergencies (with a letter frm a parent r guardian dcumenting the emergency) will be cnsidered excused absences. Interns will be respnsible t find a replacement (anther intern) and wrk ut paying back the replacement r making up missed hurs. Interns must infrm Anne Hall f shift swaps BEFORE they ccur. Basic Staffing Prcedures When staffing the resurce center, interns are expected t be dressed in a prfessinal manner as they will be representing the University f Illinis in serving the public. Attire is business casual n jeans, shrts, t-shirts, halter tps, r hats. At the start f each shift, interns will check the curse website and: Check the annuncements Read the staffing lg t see what happened during the previus shift, and t see if there are any tasks that need t be cmpleted r cntinued Check the Calendar n the curse website fr upcming events (als n Facebk) At the end f each staffing shift, interns will pst a summary n the staffing lng that includes: Any ntewrthy events r experiences that ccurred during the shift A list f tasks that were accmplished r cmpleted, and Any instructins fr staff n later shifts n tasks that need t be cntinued r cmpleted.
