VULGAMORE OUTCOMES: 4 Transplant Teams from 3 states arrive to recover organs: Right Kidney & Left Kidney/Pancreas to Salt Lake Liver transplanted in California Heart transplanted in Salt Lake Double Lungs transplanted in Washington State This all happened because somebody preserved the option of donation, called IDS, and the Coroner authorized!

Missed Opportunity Roman Carillo 0900 on 5/30/17: IDS Contacted by University Hospital per Standard Notification Protocol (CMS Regulations) Unidentified Patient Police involved shooting, gun shot wounds to head and abdomen 1230 - Patient identified Testing for Brain Death 1626 Patient declared Brain Dead at Hospital SLCPD instructs Attending MD to extubate patient SLCPD claim body as evidence Body sent to Office of the Medical Examiner for autopsy No opportunity given to approach family

Case Study - Skylar Huffield IDS Notified at 0600 on 5/25/16 22 y.o. male, homicide victim beat with a 2X4 Patient is located on the Idaho Donor Registry IDS on-site at 1400 Patient declared Brain Dead at 1422 IDS contacts County Coroner Okay to proceed with vital organs, no authorization for tissue Homicide Detectives meet with IDS Request to be present in OR to photograph condition of organs Patient managed at Portneuf Medical Center until OR set for 0230 on 5/28/16
