SCHOOL OF PHYSIOTHERAPY 1. These Program Regulations apply to all students who are enrolled in the Bachelor Physiotherapy and the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) Awards on the Fremantle Campus. 2. 1 INTRODUCTION AND INTERPRETATION 1.1 Introduction These Program Regulations apply to all students enrolled in the Bachelor Physiotherapy or Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) Awards at The University Notre Dame Australia. These Regulations should be read in conjunction with the University s General Regulations and the School Physiotherapy Regulations. 1.2 Interpretation The terms included in these Regulations have the meanings as defined in the University s General Regulations and the School Physiotherapy Regulations. 1.3 Amendments made to Program Regulations Unless otherwise specified, when amendments are made to the structure, content or academic requirements these Awards, the amendments will automatically apply in accordance with General Regulation Section 1.7. 1.4 Applicability to Campuses the University These Awards are available on the Fremantle Campus only. 1.5 The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) The Bachelor Physiotherapy is a Level 7 AQF qualification and the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) is a Level 8 AQF qualification. 3538 Bachelor Physiotherapy PAGE 4

2 ENTRY CRITERIA 2.1 General Criteria The standard entry requirements for admission are detailed in the University s General Regulations and the School Physiotherapy Regulations. 2.2 Additional Entry Requirements / Pre-Requisites Additional requirements for entry into these Awards include: School leavers are recommended to be studying ATAR course or equivalent in English and Mathematics and at least one ATAR course in the sciences that include physics, chemistry, human biology and/or physical education studies. For non-school leavers, previous university studies are required for entry to these Awards. The STAT is not applicable for entry to these Awards. 2.3 External Acation Requirements External acation requirements are applicable to these Awards. These Awards are aced by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. 3538 Bachelor Physiotherapy PAGE 5

3 AWARD REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Structure (a) For the structure the Bachelor Physiotherapy, refer to Appendices A and B. Note the transitional program planner for 2018. These two individual planners apply to all students in each year and are specific to the years 2017 and 2018 (Appendices A and B respectively). (b) For the structure the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours), refer to Appendices C and D. Note the transitional program planner for 2018. These two individual planners apply to all students in each year and are specific to the years 2017 and 2018 (Appendices C and D respectively). 3.1.1 Compulsory s All courses within these Awards are compulsory. 3.1.2 Elective s There are no Electives within these Awards. 3.1.3 Majors and Double Majors There are no Majors or Double Majors available in these Awards. 3.1.4 Minors There are no Minors available in this Award. 3.1.5 Specialisations There are no Specialisations permitted in these Awards. 3.1.6 Special Interest s There are no Special Interest s available in these Awards. 3.2 Practicum or Internship requirements (a) Students are to complete a variety formal practicum experiences within the clinical setting as a part this Award commencing in Year 2 the Awards. Clinical Placements operate in accordance with the Health and Universities Agreement for Allied Health Student Clinical Placements (2005) and Schedules to that agreement or its substitute in place at the time. 3.5 Volume Learning 3.5.1 Standard Duration (a) The standard duration the Bachelor Physiotherapy is four (4) years equivalent full-time study. The standard duration the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) is four (4) years equivalent fulltime study. (b) A student is not able to enrol in these Awards on a part-time basis. 3.5.2 Accelerated Duration An accelerated mode is not available for these Awards. 3.5.3 Maximum Duration The maximum period time within which a student is permitted to complete these Awards is 6 years (including any periods approved leave absence) from the date on which they were first enrolled into the Bachelor Physiotherapy Award by the University. 3.6 Graduation Where a student has satisfied all the requirements the Award, in which they are enrolled, as detailed in these Program Regulations and the General Regulations, the University may grant the student graduation status. 3.7 Exit Awards A student who has completed a minimum 375 units (excluding core curriculum courses) from these Awards satisfies the requirements for entry into the Bachelor Rehabilitation Science. Enrolment in and completion the Bachelor Rehabilitation Science is governed by the program regulations for that Award. Further information defining graduation requirements for the Bachelor Rehabilitation Science can be found at http://www.nd.edu.au/nav-current-students/regulations. 3.8 Honours The Bachelor Physiotherapy Award is fered with Honours. Specific admission requirements for the Honours Award are detailed below and are to be read in conjunction with the Policy: The Award a Degree with Honours. 3.8.1 Applicability Honours program Honours is available as an embedded Award within the Bachelor Physiotherapy. 3.8.2 Admission to the Honours program (a) Admission to the Honours program is by invitation (in accordance with School procedures) and is subject to approval by the Dean. (b) Enrolment in the Honours program on a part-time basis is not permitted. (c) Not more than 10% a cohort will normally enrol in the Honours program. 3.8.3 Selection Criteria (a) The first two and a half years the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) are the same as the Bachelor Physiotherapy. A student is considered for the Honours program during Semester 1 Year 3. (b) A student who demonstrates an excellent level performance during the first two years the Bachelor Physiotherapy will be considered for a place in the Honours program. (c) An excellent level performance is considered to be a GPA 3 and above (d) For entry to the Honours program a student needs to maintain a Distinction average in Semester 1 Year 3. (e) A student who is accepted into the Honours program enrols in the Honours program in Semester 2 Year 3 the program. 3538 Bachelor Physiotherapy PAGE 7

(f) In discussion with members staff, a suitably qualified student will submit a topic for consideration as an Honours research program. A student needs to arrange for a supervisor for the topic and gain the approval the Dean for this research. (g) Final acceptance into the Honours program is at the discretion the Dean, based on availability a suitable supervision arrangement and availability resources. 3.8.4 Deferral Participation in the Honours Program An option to defer a place in the Honours Program is not available for the Bachelor Physiotherapy (Honours) Award. 3.8.5 Compulsory Honours courses (a) A student enrolled in the Honours program is required to complete courses in accordance with the Award structures during the program transitional year 2018 and beyond (Appendices C and D).. (b) In the 4th year the award, a student in the Honours program completes three (3) the following clinical education courses with the selection the three courses determined in consultation with the supervisor(s) and the Clinical Education Coordinator PHTY4000 PHTY4001 PHTY4002 PHTY4003 Clinical Education III Clinical Education IV Clinical Education V Clinical Education VI 3.8.6 Progress within Honours A student who fails to make progress within the Honours program may be withdrawn from Honours and re-enrolled in the Bachelor Physiotherapy Award. (a) Failure to make progress may result from: i. a student failing a course in semester 2 year 3; or ii. iii. iv. a student not maintaining a Distinction average; or a student not meeting milestones for the conduct the research project; or a student failing within the clinical placement program in year 4 the Award. (b) If a student withdraws or is withdrawn from the Honours program, the student will be required to complete the requirements the Bachelor Physiotherapy. (c) Notwithstanding 3.9.6 (a), the Dean may approve continuation progress within the Honours program. 3.8.7 Awarding Honours Honours within this Award is awarded in accordance with the General Regulations and is awarded as a Graded Honours.
