PROBUS ASSOCIATION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA INC Website: http://probuswa.wordpress.com/ Email:probuswa@gmail.com President s Report Greetings all, Initially I wish to thank Elizabeth, Fairley and all the other PAWA committee members for carrying out the various functions they performed on my behalf during my absence. As you are all aware the 30 th birthday celebrations of PAWA are scheduled to take place on the 11 th September at the Convention Centre in Mandurah. At this event we will have with us the Chairman of Probus South Pacific, Peter Carroll. Peter s visit will give members present the opportunity to speak with him on matters of mutual interest. If you would like this opportunity, register to attend this get together. At this meeting we will also be signing a Memorandum of Understanding between PSPL and PAWA which will enable PAWA to provide member clubs greater assistance than we have been able to in the past. Our half yearly AGM together with local touring will be part of the program. Come and join the FUN, FELLOWSHIP and FRIENDSHIP that will be the essence of the day. For all those in the South West Region, Olwyn and I look forward to meeting with you at Dardanup on the 14 th October at the South West Get Together. A great day is being organised and I hope will be well supported by our clubs in that region. I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of the country clubs that have over the past couple of years opened their arms and welcomed those members participating in the Gathering tours organised by Villa. Another Gathering is being planned for April/May next year. These gatherings have proved very popular and participants have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction they have experienced with our country clubs and the hospitality that is provided. Just prior to me going away in late June a very successful Presidents luncheon was held with the Gladtones providing entertainment following the meal. They are certainly recommended as great entertainment for any special occasion. By the time you receive this edition the Past Presidents luncheon will have been held. We have 80 persons attending this function which is most encouraging. I look forward to meeting many of you at the various clubs I visit and at the functions organised for our Probus Community. Probus Association Western Australia PROBUS WA WEBSITE The PAWA website is gaining more and interest and hopefully more clubs will take up Judy Davies offer of help to create their own in the months ahead. Once you have your website completed let Judy know its address and she will put a link to it onto the PAWA website. Judy advised on 8th August: We have had 4,503 views of the website all up. This isn't the number of people but the different pages that people have clicked on i.e. one visitor might click through 4 pages so would qualify as 4 views. We have 3 WordPress followers and 13 other email followers. These are people who have submitted their email addresses and get any posts direct to their inbox. Today we have had 16 views. 10 of these are from Australia and 6 from Canada. Interestingly the pages that people click on the most are to do with News and Notes. PLEASE NOTE: On the front page of News & Notes we now have the Probus WA website and email address. SENIOR CITIZENS Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others. HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior citizens who took: The melody out of music, The pride out of appearance, The courtesy out of driving, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behaviour, The refinement out of language, The dedication out of employment, The prudence out of spending, The ambition out of achievement or God out of government and school. And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!! I'm the life of the party... even if it lasts until 8 p.m. I'm very good at opening childproof caps...with a hammer. I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up. Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN And I think I am having the time of my life! Spread the laughter - Share the cheer While we're here. 4
