CREATING SUCCESS IN TODAY'S DENTAL PRACTICE Featuring Dr. Sam Low Friday, December 1, 2017 LOCATION: The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education UTILIZING ADVANCED ULTRASONICS AND SUBGINGIVAL AIR POLISHING IN PERIODONTAL THERAPY Featuring Dr. Sam Low Saturday, December 2, 2017 LOCATION: UNC School of Dentistry Sponsored by the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry Department of Dental Ecology

SPEAKER CREATING SUCCESS IN TODAY'S DENTAL PRACTICE With periodontitis being the major contributor for tooth loss in the practice of dentistry, resolving the disease process requires the entire dental team s commitment to a systematic approach. This presentation will provide the participant with user-friendly protocols and technological solutions to find and manage periodontal disease. Take the frustration out of delivering periodontal care and gain success with patient case acceptance, tooth retention and financial reward. 1. Standardize the collection of periodontal data in an efficient manner to determine accurately the prognosis of restorative abutments and consider when to extract and place implants. 2. Develop realistic non-surgical therapies and the respective reevaluation with emphasis on new anti-inflammatory systems including micro-ultrasonics and laser technology, and nutraceuticals as probiotics and anti-oxidants. 3. Determine the efficacy of utilizing various laser wavelengths in sulcular decontamination, degranulation, new attachment, and bone regeneration. 4. Establish a quality periodontal maintenance program that enhances the restorative practice including third party reimbursement. 5. Create positive interactions between dentists, periodontists, and dental hygienists through communication skills and continuous quality improvement to enhance esthetics, tooth retention, and implant placement. This course is sponsored in part by unrestricted educational grants from Hu-Friedy Mfg. Co., Dentsply Sirona and Procter & Gamble. The registration fee is $325 for dentists and $199 for team members and includes a continental breakfast and a buffet lunch. The UNC School of Dentistry designates this course for up to 6 hours of continuing education credit. The program will be held at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. Registration will begin at 8:30am. The program will be held from 9:00am 4:45pm. The Friday Center is located on Friday Center Drive just off Highway 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. Sam Low Brochure_FINAL.indd 2 Samuel B. Low, D.D.S., M.S., M.Ed., Professor Emeritus, University of Florida, College of Dentistry; Associate faculty member of the Pankey Institute with 30 years of private practice experience in periodontics, lasers and implant placement. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and past President of the American Academy of Periodontology. He is a current Board of Director of the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Dr. Low provides dentists and dental hygienists with the tools for successfully managing the periodontal patient in general and periodontal practices and is affiliated with the Florida Probe Corporation. He was selected Dentist of the Year by the Florida Dental Association, Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Texas Dental School, and the Gordon Christensen Lecturer Recognition Award. He is a Past President of the Florida Dental Association and past ADA Trustee. Agenda - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1 4:30-4:45 pm Innovative Periodontics: Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapies; Anti-Inflammatory Systems; Micro-Ultrasonics and Laser Technology, Nutraceuticals and Anti-Oxidants - Sam Low Use of Lasers; Periodontal Maintenance Program; Enhancing Communication Skills and Continuous Quality Improvement for Esthetics, Tooth Retention and Implant Placement - Sam Low Question and Answer Session 4:45 pm Adjourn Agenda - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2 Advanced Ultrasonics Overview Morning Break Hands-On Technique Practice: 1 - Magnetostrictive Technology 2 - Piezoeletric Technology Biofilm Management/Use of Subgingival Air Polishing Overview Afternoon Break Subgingival Air Polishing Technique Practice SPEAKERS UTILIZING ADVANCED ULTRASONICS AND SUBGINGIVAL AIR POLISHING IN PERIODONTAL THERAPY Micro-thin ultrasonic instrumentation decreases fatigue and enhances efficiency with new topical anesthetics and techniques to manage difficult access, including the pesky furcation! In addition, the new subgingival air polishing concept demonstrates significant biofilm management. Incorporating power driven instrumentation into the periodontal component of the practice provides a time effective adjunct to definitive root planing and the biofilm disruption process of the periodic supportive maintenance. Enhance your armamentarium in treating today s initial and recare periodontal patient where surgical therapy may not be feasible. By incorporating a combination of ultrasonic instrumentation in tandem with air polishing, optimal patient care is achieved! 1. Select the most effective instruments commercially available to achieve effective results and maximize benefits to the patient's health. 2. Implement techniques unique to this modality, especially in the area of enhancing patient comfort. 3. Operate ultrasonic instrumentation with modified inserts in a sulcular arena with an array of medicaments. 4. Utilize subgingival air polishing for increased biofilm removal. 5. Provide ergonomic techniques to decrease physical fatigue and enhance time efficiency. This course is sponsored in part by in-kind support from Hu-Friedy Mfg. Co. The registration fee is $400 for dentists and $350 for dental hygienists and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. The UNC School of Dentistry designates this course for up to 6 hours of continuing education credit. A discount is available if you attend both courses. You must call the CDE office to register for both courses. The program will be held at the UNC School of Dentistry on Manning Drive. Registration will begin at 8:30am.
