RISE Fundraising Pack Thank you! Fundraisers are the oxygen of RISE. You are our community: you talk to people about our work; you excite and inspire your friends and family; you take our message into your work place; and you help create a space where domestic abuse is something that everyone can talk openly about. This pack is here to support you do your best fundraising, from how to plan a successful event to telling everyone about it with plenty of inspiration along the way. If you need anything, get in touch. We love hearing from you and supporting you to reach your target. Thank you for being the change that we all want to see; a community where people live free from abuse and violence. Why?

RISE Fundraising Pack RISE is a charity supporting people affected by domestic abuse in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. Along with the only local domestic abuse helpline, we offer emergency refuge accommodation, legal and housing advice, counselling, special help for families and a dedicated LGB&T* service. when RISE came into my life. They were there to help and guide me, which was a good thing because I was in a bit of a state...they took care of me. The Children s Team continues to help my daughter understand her past and secure her future. RISE service user 1,765 RISE helpline calls in 2016-17 13 police call-outs a day for domestic violence in Brighton & Hove in 2016-17 147 women and children were given refuge by RISE in 2016-17 2 women a week are murdered by a partner or ex-partner in the UK Just wanted to say a huge heartfelt thanks to the therapy service for all your support. From start to finish I think the service and people are fantastic. It s been life changing! RISE service user As I try to get my life back on track I know that RISE will always be there for me. Up to 6 referrals for every refuge space at RISE RISE service user Domestic abuse costs 118m a year in Brighton & Hove

RISE Fundraising Pack You are supporting people to live free from domestic abuse and violence Each day it costs 4,567 to provide all of our services. Every penny you raise will go directly towards the provision of crisis support, practical guidance and the emotional care that help women, families and individuals rebuild their lives. Thank you for making it possible. 10 could pay for one helpline call 20 could provide a child at refuge with a school uniform 50 could pay for a counselling session

RISE Fundraising Pack Getting started Now you have your why, let s get fundraising! 1. Spend some time thinking about how to fundraise. Find something that suits your lifestyle, personality and passions. Inspiration on pages 6-7. 2. Ask friends, family and colleagues to help you. How about your faith group, exercise class, sports team, local school? Will your employer match your fundraising? 3. Set a date and time. Are there any other big local events on at the same time? When is your audience free? Is weather important? 4. Set a target and budget. Targets encourage your supporters to give you more. We recommend spending no more than 1 for every 3 you raise. Ask us for a Budget Template. 5. Find a venue/sponsor/raffle prize. Whoever you need to contact, do it by phone if you can. It s much more personal. Tell the venue you are putting on your event for RISE and you may get it at a discount or even for free. 6. Keep it safe and legal. See page 9. 7. Set up an online sponsorship page at www.justgiving.com/riseuk. See top tips to raise more money with JustGiving on page 8. Paper sponsorship forms are at the back of this pack. 8. Give us a call. We love to hear what you are up to. We can provide balloons and bags, t-shirts, collection boxes and buckets, banners and flags, as well as support with budgeting and social media promotion. We can even put it on our website or in our newsletter. 9. Talk about it. Let your supporters know how you are getting on and why you are fundraising for RISE on social media and by word of mouth. Tag us on social media with @RISEUK and we will help you spread the word. If you need logos or images get in touch. 10. Enjoy yourself! Have a fabulous time celebrating your hard work. 11. Pay the money in. See page 11. Don t forget Gift Aid. Remind everyone paying tax in the UK this will increase their donation by 25%. 12. Say thank you. Whether it s a thank you on social media or a personal handwritten note to supporters and everyone who helped you out, a note to let everyone know how you got on and how much you raised will go a long way.

RISE Fundraising Pack Inspiration Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to make a little extra, here are some ideas to help: Bake Off. Who can resist a cake baking competition! Get raising some much kneaded dough from competition entry and selling cakes. The Bake Off Champion could win a prize. Dress Up Day. Think black tie and ball gowns in the office. Include a Best Dressed competition. Don t forget to take photos! Raffle. A fundraising classic. Add it on to an event you are already doing to boost your income. Ask local businesses, work, or your networks for fabulous prizes. Quiz Night. Got some niche knowledge? All you need is a quiz master, some friends and quiz questions! Charge everyone a small entry fee to show off their brain power. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Parties. Bring people together and raise money: charging entry fees, selling food and drink, or asking for donations instead of gifts. Give Something Up. A sponsored month of no texting, swearing, make up or (horrors!) your morning coffee. Anything goes! Clare ran three races over two years: the Brighton Half Marathon, the Polar Half Marathon and the Polar Bear Challenge (Polar Circle Marathon and Polar Half Marathon on two consecutive days!) raising over 2,000. Top Tip Got a quirky event? Contact your local media. A few lines in local press or community newsletters can increase interest in your fundraising. Ask us for our Press Release Template.

RISE Fundraising Pack More inspiration Swishing Party. Have your friends and family bring their unwanted clothes, accessories, whatever needs swishing. Everyone pays an entry fee and swops away! Boost your money with a raffle or cake sale. Give An Hour (Or Day!). Ask everyone at work to give the last hour/day s pay of the month or year to RISE. Work in a big office? Make it a friendly competition between teams to see who can raise the most. One For The Bucket List. Do something amazing and get sponsored at the same time. Paddle boarding round the Pier? The Three Peaks? Pickled onion eating? Make Something. Are you a keen knitter? A brilliant badge maker? Or a terrific t-shirt designer? Why not sell your items at a craft fair and donate your profits to RISE? Run. The RISE 8K, half-marathons, full marathons, park runs plenty of opportunities to get your trainers on and run for RISE. Keep It Simple. Raise money from something you are already doing. Putting on a show? Games night with friends? Or Every year, Karen holds an afternoon of yoga and cream tea in her garden as well as a raffle. This year, Karen raised 462! Top Tip Do something personal to you: a challenge you want to achieve, an activity you are good at, or something you are doing already.

If you do the same for your event everything should go smoothly. Please read carefully. Insurance If you organise an event that involves the public in any way, we advise that you ensure that you are covered by public liability insurance. The owners of your chosen venue may already be covered. This can be purchased from most insurance companies. If sub-contractors or facilities are used, such as portaloos and bouncy castles, please ensure that they have the requisite insurance cover. RISE does not accept liability for any events run in aid of the charity. Street Collections To collect in the street, you will need a license from the local council. Street collections permits go quickly so do apply early. To collect on private property, for example shopping centres and pubs, you must ask for written permission from whoever owns it. Door-to-door collections (including pub-to pub) also require a license, which can also be obtained from the local council. You will also need to wear ID to show that you are collecting on behalf of RISE. Please contact RISE prior to organising a collection since we will be more than happy to send you supporting fundraising materials such as t-shirts and stickers. Collectors must be over the age of 16. Alcohol If you are going to sell alcohol you or your venue must have a license. You can obtain a temporary license ("occasional permission") from the Licensing Justice at your local Magistrate's Court, but you need to give at least one month s notice. Food There are various food hygiene procedures which you must follow if you plan to sell food that has been unwrapped or home-made. Further information can be obtained from your local authority environmental health department. Please also visit www.food.gov.uk for food safety laws guidelines. Things to remember: 1. Always ensure that children are safe, take time to assess the risks. 2. If you are going to be carrying money take care with personal security and make sure there are at least two of you with the money at all times. 3. Assess the risks involved in your event and minimise or eradicate them. Let us know if you need a Risk Assessment template. 5. Contact your local police and/or local authority if you are planning to hold an event in a public place.
