Department of Pharmacology, ESIC Medical College, Sanathnagar CME Report conducted on 8 th July 2016 Topic / Theme : Thyroid Disorders : Concerns and Challenges. The Telangana State Medical Council has accredited 2 credit hours for the CME. Objectives : To enable the Clinicians in enriching their knowledge on thyroid disorders and able to treat patients in better perspective. Target Participants : Postgraduates and Faculty of General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstertrics and Gynaecology, Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology. Programme Details : The programme started with registration at 8.30 AM. A total of 129 participants registered for the CME. The participants were from various medical colleges and hospitals, which includes 24 IMO s and specialists of ESIC Hospital, 57 faculty members of ESIC Medical College and 38 from the other medical colleges. Welcome note was given by Dr Karuna Sree, Organizing secretary and Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, ESICMC. Guest of Honours : The session was inaugurated at 9.00 AM by Guest of Honours of the Day Dr. Ramachandra, ESIC Board Member. Dr.M.Srinivas Rao, Cardiologist, Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Dr.P.Usha Rani, Professor and Head, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. Dr.M.Srinivas, Dean, ESIC Medical College, Sanathnagar. After the inauguration the first talk was given by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sahay, Professor, Department of Endocrinology, Osmania Medical College and General Hospital, Hyderabad on current scenario of thyroid disorders in India. The session was highly informative and interactive.
The next session was by Dr.Padmavathi M, Assistant Professor, Department of anatomy, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. Her talk was on the anatomy of thyroid gland and its applied aspects which gave a clear visualization of thyroid gland. The tea break was given for 15 minutes. It was followed by talk on Clinical features, diagnosis and management of hypothyroidism by Dr.Gopala Krishna J, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, ESIC Medical College (ESICMC). He explained elaborately on how the hypothyroid patient may present with and how to manage them. The next session was on clinical features and diagnosis of hyperthyroidism by Dr.Nitin Kumar J, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, ESICMC, gave a clear picture on the presentation of hyperthyroid patients. After this session, Dr. B.N.Vijayaraghava Rao, Cardiologist, Professor and Head of General Medicine department, ESICMC, spoke on the impact of thyroid disorders on cardiovascular system and explained about how a thyroid patient may present with different cardiovascular scenarios. Dr. Y.Madhavi, Professor and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology had given talk on thyroid disorders in pregnancy and how to manage them by giving explaining with different case scenarios. It was followed by lunch. In the afternoon session, the talk on Importance of Thyroid Disorders in Paediatric Practice was given by Dr.P.Sudershan Reddy, Chairman & Chief Consultant Pediatrician, Krishna Children s Hospital, Retd. Prof. and Head of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. He stressed upon the fact that by simple neonatal screening of thyroid hormones prevents the children from becoming cretins which is most of the times ignored by many doctors. Dr.Y.Venkata Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences, Narketpally, spoke on the Pharmacotherapy of Hyperthyroid disorders and
gave clear idea about various treatment options available and which drugs to choose depending on the circumstances. Dr.V.M.Sankar Reddy, Assistant Professor, Department of General Surgery, ESICMC spoke on the Surgical Perception in the Management of Thyroid Disorders The session was ended by Vote of Thanks given by Mr. Manikanta, Tutor, Department of pharmacology, ESICMC.
