UWA Sport Pty Ltd 1 June 2016 UWA Team Athletes and Coaches Code of Conduct Your selection to represent the University of Western Australia (UWA) at the Western University Games (WUG) and/or the Australian University Games (AUG) is conditional upon each team member signing this contract and observing its terms. After reading this document in full and signing the agreement (or have a Parent/Guardian sign if you are under 18 years of age), return the completed document to UWA Sport Pty Ltd (UWA Sport). It is advised that you retain a copy of the contract for your own records. UWA Team Management reserves the right to alter the Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Sanctions at any time, if required. Each team member will be notified of any changes to the current conditions in writing. What is the Code of Conduct? a) This Code sets out the types of behaviour that will not be acceptable during Australian University Sport (AUS) endorsed events including but not limited to AUG, WUG and UWA representative competition, and the consequences for such behaviour occurring. b) UWA regards any breach of this Code as a serious matter and may take disciplinary action against a person/team in breach of the code. c) This Code supports UWA and AUS s desire to encourage and promote excellent sportsmanship and appropriate standards of behaviour, including fair play on and off the field. d) This Code is established to ensure that the highest possible standard of intervarsity competition occurs during the event. e) This Code is not intended to restrict or hinder persons having fun and participating in a competitive manner in the event. f) It is important to note that this Code may apply in addition to other UWA policies and/or any Code or other disciplinary requirements of AUS, sport governing body and breaches of the Code will be referred to the Police where appropriate. Who does the Code apply to? This Code applies to: All athletes, athletes representatives and officials participating in an AUS or UWA event, sporting competition and surrounding social or other events. All persons officially appointed to any UWA team or individual competing in the event, such as administrators, coaches, managers, trainers, medical practitioners, physiotherapists and health professionals. All officials appointed by UWA and/or the event organisers who are involved in the organisation, administration, management, promotion and officiating of the event, including staff, volunteers, umpires/referees, and committee members. When does this Code apply? The Code applies from the time of the commencement of the event on the first day to the conclusion of organised activities on the last day or as in the case of a representative team, from notification of selection until departure from the team including: 1. During games and competitions in the event. 2. All official and unofficial social functions of, or associated with, the event. General Behaviour As a person required to comply with UWA policies, the following requirements in regard to conduct during any event, activity held, sanctioned or endorsed by UWA, and in any role held within UWA or an UWA affiliate, must be met: 1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others. 2. Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others. 3. Be professional in, and accept responsibility for your actions. 4. Make a commitment to providing quality service. 5. Be aware of, and maintain an uncompromising adhesion to, AUS standards, rules, regulations, guidelines, policies and by-laws. 6. Operate within the rules of the sport including national and international guidelines which govern the sport. 7. Do not use your involvement with UWA to promote your own beliefs, behaviours, or practices where these are inconsistent with those of UWA. 8. Maintain high personal behavioural standards at all times. 9. Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctuality. 10. Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions are an example. 11. Avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with persons under 18 years of age, wherever possible. 12. Refrain from any form of harassment of others. 13. Refrain from any behaviour that may bring UWA (including the event and/or event organisers) into disrepute. 14. Provide a safe environment for the conduct of the activity. 15. Show concern or caution towards others who may be sick or injured. 16. Be a positive role model. 17. Do not consume alcohol unless in an approved area, in moderation, responsibly and in line with relevant liquor licensing regulations. 18. Under no circumstances will any team member consume alcohol before or during a game, nor take to the field in an intoxicated state. 19. Do not be unduly intoxicated at any event venue or official or unofficial social functions of, or associated with, the event. 20. Do not breach the AUS Anti-Doping By-Law. 21. Do not use any illegal drugs during the event. 22. Comply with all reasonable directions of UWA or AUS. 23. Do not act in an unlawful manner. 24. Understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of, this Code of Behaviour. 25. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials and spectators. Do not tolerate acts of aggression. 26. Respect the talent, potential and development of fellow players and competitors. 27. Care for and respect the equipment provided to you or utilised as part of the activity. 28. Be frank and honest with your coach concerning illness and injury and your ability to train for or participate fully within the activity. 29. At all times avoid intimate relationships with your coach. 30. Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctuality. 31. Maintain high personal behaviour standards at all times. Page 2 of 5

32. Abide by the rules and respect the decision of the official, making all appeals through the formal process and respecting the final decision. 33. Be in an appropriate state of physical health for the competition. 34. Be honest in your attitude and preparation to participate. Work equally hard for yourself and your team. 35. Cooperate with coaches and staff in development of programs to adequately prepare you for competition at the highest level. Social Media Policy The inappropriate use of social media in a professional or personal capacity, can violate the privacy, breach the security and harm the reputations of UWA employees, students and/or The University itself. Such activity may be determined as misconduct or serious misconduct, resulting in possible disciplinary action and the right to disqualify you from the competition and UWA Team. As a person required to comply with UWA policies, the following requirements in regard to social media conduct during any event, activity held, sanctioned or endorsed by UWA, and in any role held within UWA or an UWA affiliate, must be met. 1. Do not bring the University name into disrepute as a result of your actions through the use of social media communications (Information technology by text or image, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Second Life, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Flickr, Urban Dictionary, YouTube, etc) 2. Do not comment on or post material that is, or might be construed to be, racial or sexual harassment, offensive, obscene (including pornography), defamatory, discriminatory towards any person, or inciting hate. 3. Do not comment on or post material that creates, or might be construed to create, a risk to the health or safety of a student, team member, staff member or other person, including material that amounts to bullying, psychological or emotional violence, coercion, harassment, sexual harassment, aggressive or abusive comments or behaviour, and/or unreasonable demands or undue pressure 4. Do not post content that might be embarrassing to an individual or that could be construed as placing an individual in a negative or false light. 5. Do not comment on or post material that might otherwise cause damage to the University's reputation or bring it into disrepute. 6. Do not use the University's crest or logo without permission, or use the University's name in a manner that is likely to be misleading or bring the University into disrepute, including while wearing UWA team uniforms with the crest or swan can easily identify as a UWA student/participant. 7. Accept that violation of the UWA Sport Social Media Policy will result in disciplinary action and could result in immediate disqualification from the team. Duty to Comply Each UWA affiliated person should: 1. Comply with, and require any other body or person in membership with or affiliated with it, to comply with this Code of Behaviour. 2. Adopt appropriate procedures for monitoring compliance with this Code of Behaviour by persons under its jurisdiction or under the jurisdiction of other bodies in membership with or affiliated with it. 3. Promptly report to UWA or event organisers, any potential breach of this Code of Behaviour of which it becomes aware. 4. Ensure that all persons understand the requirements of this Code of Behaviour and where necessary have the details explained to him/her. What behaviour is in breach of this Code? Any person who does, or is involved in, any of the following types of behaviour shall be in breach of the Code: 1. Consuming alcohol unless in an approved area, in line with relevant liquor licensing regulations. Page 3 of 5

2. Being unduly intoxicated at any event venue or official and unofficial social functions of, or associated with, the event. 3. Using or possessing any illegal or prohibited drug during the event. 4. Failing to comply with a reasonable direction of an event official. 5. Breaching the relevant sport, event or competition rules, regulations and/or policies. 6. Abusing, threatening or intimidating an event or competition official, selector, coach, manager or other squad official or any other participant, whether before, during or after the event or competition. 7. Showing unnecessary or obvious dissension, displeasure or disapproval towards an event or competition official, his or her decision, or generally after a decision of an event, competition or team officials has been made. 8. Using crude or abusive language or gestures towards an event, competition or team official or any other person present at the event or competition (including, without limitation, a spectator, official, volunteer or participant). 9. Doing anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult or humiliate another person involved in the event on the basis of their sex, disability, race, colour, age, religion, national or ethnic origin. 10. Conducting themselves in any manner, or engage in any activity, whether before, during or after an event or competition (including during training and other activities), that would impair public confidence in the honest and orderly conduct of events and competitions or in the integrity and good character of university sport and its participants. 11. Doing anything which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits University Sport generally, UWA, AUS, the event organisers, any member association or associate member of AUS, the team, an event, competition, tour, sponsor, official supplier or licensee, (including any employee, official or agent of such organisations) including without limitation, any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud at any time. 12. Betting on the outcome or on any other aspect of the event or competition. 13. Throwing or fixing an event or competition, attempt to achieve a contrived outcome to an event or competition, or otherwise influence improperly the outcome of any other aspect of an event of competition. 14. Acting in an unlawful manner. 15. Seeking or accepting a bribe or other benefit (whether financial or non-financial) to do anything mentioned above. Please note that any on-field incidents will be managed and dealt with by the on-field officials of the match, game or fixture and by the appropriate laws, rules or processes of the appropriate sporting competition. However, if the breach is deemed severe, the incident may be reported as a breach of the Code of Behaviour. What happens if this Code is breached? If UWA team manager/s or the event organisers receive information which any of them consider may be in breach of this Code, UWA shall: Investigate the alleged breach, and if satisfied that a breach may have occurred, refer the matter to a hearing with the UWA, AUG Leadership or Sports Council Committee, and if these committees are satisfied that a breach may have occurred impose a penalty or penalties as outlined below. What Penalties can be imposed? Suspension from the next game or fixture in the event in which s/he is due to compete Suspension from competing in the event for one or more days of the event Alcohol related infractions Suspension from future UWA or AUS events Withdrawal of any or all awards, placing s and records obtained by that person or that person s team, during the event Banned from being involved in the event in any form whatsoever including being present at event venues, and official functions of the event Page 4 of 5

Removal from the team and immediate removal back to Perth Additional costs associated with subsequent breaches to be met by the individuals or teams concerned which can include a) damages b) forfeit fines c) disciplinary hearing fees UWA Sport has the right to revoke player bonds for failure to adhere to the above conditions. Any other penalty the Disciplinary Committee thinks appropriate in all the circumstances. In addition the person may be disciplined by the university, which they represent, and/or be prosecuted by the Police. Page 5 of 5
