Anna Kampas is a typical 16-year-old. She loves sports and excels at soccer, skiing and track. Before she starts her day, though, Anna must do 30 minutes of CF treatments and take dozens of pills. She sets her alarm for 5:15am to complete her regimen. I want to live a long, healthy life and I know doing my treatments will help me, says Anna, who was diagnosed with CF as an infant. She credits her parents and her care team at Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh of OPMC for empowering her to take charge to her own health at an early age. My care team is like family, and they really stressed to me from the time I was little how important it is to do my vest and take all of my medications, Anna says. Now that I m older, they help me stick to a treatment schedule that works for me. Important Note on Attendance at Foundation Events: To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundationsponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event.
Helping those with Cystic Fibrosis YESTERDAY The CF Foundation has been helping those with Cystic Fibrosis since 1955. Our Care Center network, patient registry and medical development investments have added decades to the lives of those battling the disease TODAY Today s health care landscape can be hard to navigate. A growing number of people with CF are finding themselves facing difficult choices about their or their child s health care even postponing care and cutting back on medications due to financial concerns. The CF Foundation is dedicated to helping all people with CF get the coverage they need to keep their CF treatment on track and stay healthy. TOMORROW We continue to invest in our drug development pipeline with the goal of finding a cure. Great advancements have been made to improve the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis and to control the effects of their disease, but a cure is what we truly seek. The Cox Family s Story For years, Carrie Cox tried to manage the financial challenges of having two young boys with cystic fibrosis alone. But as the kids grew, so did the number of medications and their co-pays. Carrie knew she needed help. The Foundation s Patient Assistance Resource Center helped the Cox family afford the CF medications their kids need to stay healthy.
