Take-home messages Correlation of radiologic, clinical and histologic features are critical, especially in low-grade cartilage lesions. Permeation is the most sensitive histologic criterion separating enchondroma from chondrosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma of small bones of the hands and feet should be diagnosed with caution. Chondrosarcomas, especially grade 1, are predominantly locally aggressive, but local disease can be fatal even in the absence of metastases
