Preface Although China has a long history of therapeutic exercise, practice in treatment, prevention of diseases and prolonging people's life, all of which plays an important role in sports medicine, sports medicine as a comprehensive scientific modern science has only a short history of about 30 years in China. The purpose of this book `China's Sports Medicine' is to give a brief introduction of the past and present situation concerning clinical and research work in sports medicine in China. Eleven representative papers are included. I hope this work will be helpful in improving mutual understanding and in strengthening further cooperation worldwide. I have enjoyed preparing `China's Sports Medicine' and deeply appreciate the colleagues who, through their knowledge and wisdom, have guided me. May this book fulfill its purpose. Qu Mianyu, MD
