It s oe of our best programmes for documetig measurable differeces i outcomes Case Study - Fraces Fraces, was referred to the WEA followig a period of depressio. She had a log history of bi-polar disorder ad was reluctat to egage with metal health services or take medicatio as she believed herself to be well. Fraces was strugglig with motivatig herself to udertake activities. However, Fraces recogised she eeded to work o her self-esteem ad cofidece, so she decided to erol o a 10 week WEA Cofidet Commuicatios course. It was a small group, ad although Fraces was very quiet iitially, she soo settled i ad bega to take a active part i group discussios ad exercises. Toward the ed of the course, Fraces applied for work as a Care Assistat. Although she was ervous about attedig the iterview she was successful ad was offered the job ad is ow i employmet.

Meetig the Public Health Outcomes Framework for Eglad, 2013-2016 The WEA eables idividuals, particularly those from disadvataged commuities, to live healthy lifestyles, make healthy choices ad reduce health iequalities (Domai 2: Health Improvemet of the Public Health Outcomes Framework). Through adult educatio, the WEA icreases the ability of idividuals to uderstad ad make use of healthcare messages thus reducig their eed for primary or emergecy care services. From improvig Eglish ad maths skills, though gettig active to improve mobility ad fitess, to icreasig cofidece ad self-esteem, WEA courses help studets make positive chages that ripple out from idividuals to commuities. Almost house-boud, Mr Ali required regular ursig visits ad suffered from severe pai which required medicatio. To improve his coditio, Mr Ali bega attedig the WEA Tadrusti course at the Halesowe Asia Elderly Associatio. The tutor was able to adapt the exercises for his medical coditio ad Mr Ali was able to cotiue the routies he leart at home. A importat aspect of the course was the compaioship with other studets ad the feelig of beig i a safe eviromet. Mr Ali has ow lost early five stoe i weight ad fids walkig much easier. He o loger takes pai relief medicatio ad has built his cofidece eough to get local buses which have reduced his isolatio ad depedece o family members. He says that exercise has totally chaged my life for the better ad he is owhere ear as breathless whe I am walkig compared to how I used to be.
