Fourteen new and/or updated courses were developed in 2008-2009 and posted on the Knowledge Hub's web site in 2009-2010. September-November Knowledge Hub Calendar The following trainings and events are scheduled to take place at the Knowledge Hub or affiliated centers in September-November 2011 The following five clinical protocols on HIV/AIDS treatment and care in the WHO European Region are currently under revision by WHO and will be translated into Russian language by KH C&T/AIHA: Patient Evaluation and Antiretroviral Treatment for Adults and Adolescents Management of Tuberculosis and HIV Co-infection Management of Hepatitis B and HIV Co-infection Prevention of HIV Transmission from HIV-infected Mothers to Their Infants Pediatric HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care October 26-30 42nd Union World Conference on Lung Health, Lille, France Two AIHA/KH C&T representatives will take part in the 42nd Union World Conference on Lung Health in Lille, France. New evidence-based data and scientific results received from the conference will be reflected in updated versions of AIHA/KH courses, training materials, and other products. Russia October 10-12 The International MDG-6 Forum, Moscow AIHA representatives will take part in the International MDG-6 Forum, participating in a number of sessions, debates, and discussions. AIHA will exhibit at the event and is organizing a number of activities, including the presentation and distribution of HIV/AIDS and TB products developed by AIHA/KH C&T, along with major translated materials, CDs, and other educational tools. October 20-22 Russian Scientific Practical Conference Improvement of Medical Care for TB Patients, St. Petersburg, Russia AIHA Executive Director and representatives from AIHA/KH C&T will take part in this conference, which will provide new evidence-based data and scientific results that will be reflected in in updated versions of AIHA/KH courses, training materials, and other products. Belarus November 21-24 Training on Advanced Adult ART and Adherence to Treatment for Multidisciplinary Teams, Minsk This course is the second 3.5-day training to be conducted by AIHA/KH C&T with support from the EU- BLR WHO Country Office. Through a multidisciplinary approach, experienced faculty from St. Petersburg will teach some 24 physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers from Belarus topics related to the provision of comprehensive care and treatment to PLHIV, such as advanced adult ART, effective management of opportunistic infections, and how to improve patient adherence to treatment. Moldova September 12-16 Training on Integrated Medical HIV Case Management for Multidisciplinary Team, Chisinau In response to a request from Center PAS in Moldova, AIHA will conduct a 5-day training titled Integrated Medical HIV Case Management for multidisciplinary teams consisting of coordinators of services who provide care and treatment to PLHIV in Moldova. The faculty team of Russian and Ukrainian experts in HIV/AIDS and substance abuse treatment will share international best practices in the field of integrated medical HIV case management with some 25 participants, who will be also trained in mechanisms of coordination and integration of services and developing possible algorithms for building the system of comprehensive care and treatment to PLHIV in Moldova. Turkmenistan November 1-4 Development of National HIV/AIDS Guidelines for Turkmenistan, Ashgabat AIHA/KH C&T will launch a new initiative Capacity Building of HIV Medical Specialists in Turkmenistan in response to a request from UNFPA and WHO offices in country. This meeting will bring together the national working group with international HIV/AIDS experts from AIHA/KH C&T and the United States, who will assist with the development of national HIV/AIDS clinical, diagnostic, and treatment guidelines based on WHO s revised recommendations on ART for adults and adolescents. News Knowledge Hub in Review With support from private donors and WHO, AIHA/KH C&T recently translated and printed a number of the most requested international HIV/AIDS books and guidelines, which have been made available for download throughout the KH C&T and EurasiaHealth Web sites. These include: The Pocket Guide to Adult HIV/AIDS Treatment, 2010-2011, J.G. Developed by the DHHS Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents A Working Group of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council (OARAC), United States http://www.eurasiahealth.org/rus/health/resources/82719/ With support from the Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), AIHA is translating the latest version of the textbook HIV Medicine 2011 by J.K. Rockstroh and C. Hoffmann; this book will be available in December 2011. AIHA is also planning to translate the next issue Medical Management of HIV-infection by J.G. Bartlett, G. Gallant. Russia June 1-3 IX Congress of Russian TB Specialists, Moscow Representatives from AIHA/KH C&T took part in this event and the resulting information will be reflected in updated versions of AIHA/KH courses, training materials, and other products. June 6 KH C&T Working Meeting, Moscow AIHA/KH C&T experts from Russia and Germany met in Moscow to discuss further KH C&T plans and activities. They also discussed and approved training materials newly developed through the project, including detailed written descriptions of the topics presented in the course Organ and System Complications in Patients with HIV-Infection.
