TEAM CAPTAIN TOOLKIT 04.21.2018 RACCOON RIVER PARK, WEST DES MOINES For Organ, Eye and Tissue donation Presented by My Angel Foundation & Iowa Donor Network

Greetings, Team Captains! Thank you for being a Team Captain for this year's GREEN 5K! Participating in the GREEN 5K as part of a team has many benefits. First and foremost, it s FUN! What a great opportunity to spend time with family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and/or classmates as a team and support the live-saving mission of transforming lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Teams are also a great way to honor the lives of donors, celebrate the health of recipients, and provide hope for those who continue to wait for a life-saving transplant. The role of Team Captain is an important one. You become the chief motivator and coordinator for your team. You also help to set fundraising and recruitment goals. We know it can be a big task so this toolkit is filled with resources to help you succeed. Your time and commitment helps to make this race a success year after year and we are so grateful for Team Captains like you. Thank you for your commitment to the cause and for working tirelessly to raise funds for the mission. If you should need anything in the coming months, do not hesitate to reach out. Contact information is provided below. On behalf of Iowa Donor Network and My Angel Foundation, THANK YOU for your continued support and efforts. You make a difference and are helping to transform lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Team Recruitment & Motivation Tips START EARLY. Get to work early setting objectives and deadlines for your team s size and fundraising goals. We encourage you to use your personal fundraising page through the GREEN 5K registration page to help with this. Make sure to customize your page with your story and photographs. Your story is powerful. We encourage you to use it. Hey! ASK, ASK, ASK. Ask anyone and everyone to join your team. The more people involved, the more fun we have! Not to mention more funds raised! SOCIAL MEDIA. Use the power of social media! This can be key in spreading your message. You can reach your circle far and wide. Even if family and friends can t join, many will want to support you from afar. ENCOURAGE. Send weekly e-mails to touch base with your team and to maintain momentum. If a teammate quickly meets or exceeds their fundraising goal, share it with the group in an e-mail or on Facebook. Don t be afraid to create a little competition among your team members. Everyone will work harder and you will increase team enthusiasm leading up to the event. BUILD A PYRAMID. Ask each person you recruit for your team to invite three more people to join. You ll find your team growing in no time! PERSONALIZE YOUR ASK. Send emails asking for monetary donations with links to your personal fundraising page. Remember to share your personal connection to donation and why you are supporting the cause. Encourage your team to do the same. THANK YOU NOTES. You can t say thank you too many times. Thank your team members and monetary donors. Encourage your team members to do the same. Be timely in your thanks. Make everyone feel appreciated and let them know their hard work is paying off as you work towards meeting your goal. If donors feel appreciated, they are more likely to give again and increase their gift! TEAM GOAL: Keep an eye on your personal and team goals. As you see your fundraising totals increase, consider raising your goals. The higher your goal, the more people tend to donate. T-SHIRTS. Design your team t-shirts with photographs, artwork, quotes, or memories in honor of a donor or recipient. TEAM PRIDE. Show the spirit of your team by creating custom posters and signs to carry at the GREEN 5K. If honoring a donor or recipient, this is a great way to share your loved ones story. Celebrate! HAVE FUN. This is a fun, family-friendly event for the whole community. We want everyone to come out and enjoy themselves. YES, we want to INSPIRE others, but we also want to have a great time celebrating organ, eye and tissue donation.

Be a FundRACER As the leader of your team and a leader in ending the wait for organ transplants across the US, it is important for you to know and share the impact of fundraising. Funds raised for the GREEN 5K directly impact our community. Funds are used to honor our donors and their families for their life-saving and life-enhancing gifts, support community outreach and education programs, as well as to help register more donors each year. YOU are key to our success. Tips for Success: 1. Lead by example. Excitement is contagious! It s important that your teammates feel your dedication and excitement. Make them feel inspired to raise funds - and what better way of doing that than to start fundraising yourself. 2. Ask. As you did to recruit team members, ask anyone and everyone if they will donate to help you reach your fundraising goal. In most cases, people will donate their time and money simply because they were asked. 3. Give Thanks. Thank those who contribute to your campaign with a personal letter or email. Let them know how much you appreciate their donation and how it's helping you to reach your goal. 4. Have FUN. They don't put the fun in FUNdraising for nothing. See the attached list of creative ways to make fundraising fun and simple. It doesn't have to be scary! Who to Ask: Anyone is a potential donor so don't be afraid to ask. Review your list of contacts and ask people you see everyday. Don't forget to share WHY you are fundraising for this cause. Your personal connection will surely make an impact and your friends, family, colleagues, and more will be honored to sponsor your fundraising drive. Fundraising Ideas GREEN 5K FUNDRAISING PAGE. You have the opportunity to develop and share your story with family, friends and supporters. Using your personal fundraising page is a great way to seek donations for the cause and spread awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation. SELL SPACE ON A T-SHIRT. Sell small blocks of space on a shirt you plan to wear to the race for a suggested $20 donation. Encourage donors to write a tribute to you or in honor of a donor or recipient. GAMES NIGHT FUNDRAISER. Whether its board games, cards or trivia, family-friendly or adult only, trivia nights can be a great way to raise funds! YARD SALE. Gather some friends and start collecting all those unwanted items in search of a new owner. It s a great way to clear the clutter and raise funds! CHORES FOR CHARITY. Some organizations will sponsor your campaign in return for cleaning, serving, repairing, etc.! Check with local businesses to see if this is something they would like to participate in. DRESS DOWN DAYS. Work with your company on hosting a Dress Down day where employees can pay $5 to dress causal for a day and the funds can go to your goal. A great day to do this is Blue/Green day on April 21st for Donate Life Month! FACEBOOK PHOTO AUCTION. Auction off your profile picture where family and friends can win the chance to control your profile picture for a week. CAR WASH. Help wash cars and watch dollars flow into your fundraising bank. CHANGE JAR. When you empty your pockets at the end of the day, where does all your spare change go? Create a Change for Change jar in your house or office, encouraging yourself, friends, family and coworkers to donate spare change. This will add up! PANCAKE BREAKFAST OR SPAGHETTI DINNER. Work with your local school or house of worship to host a pancake breakfast or spaghetti dinner. With small out of pocket costs, you can charge $5 per person for a plate, increase your fundraising efforts and fill some bellies! BAKE SALE. Nothing tastes sweeter than meeting your fundraising goal. Whip up some delicious treats to sell at work or outside a local store. We recommend anything with GREEN icing. IOWA EVENTS CENTER CLEAN-UP OPPORTUNITY. Earn $250 to clean up after large scale events. Minimum of 15-20 volunteers needed.
