Falls Falls are a major cause of injury for older people and cause hip and wrist fractures, dislocations, head injuries and bruises. Falls can be prevented with simple safety measures in the home and outside. We recommend you consult an occupational therapist or healthcare professional to help assess your risk.. Many items in the Evadale product range have been designed specifically to help prevent falls, as featured in this brochure.

Falls It is estimated that at least one-third of people aged 65 years and over fall one or more times a year. Although many of these falls do not result in injury, they can cause hip and wrist fractures, hip and shoulder dislocations, head injuries and abrasions, bruising and sprains. Those with reduced bone density from conditions such as osteoporosis or osteoarthritis are at a much greater risk of serious injury. Fear of falling can also result in loss of confidence and restriction of activities. Contrary to popular belief, falls are not inevitable and many older people can be prevented from falling. Some risk factors for falls are relatively easy to change and the severity of injuries can be reduced. To avoid falls, maintain a good exercise program for increased balance and strength, wear comfortable shoes and improve safety in and around your home. To help prevent falls, we have gathered a selection of products that will increase safety in and around your home. Trip hazards in the home These suggestions are provided only as a guide so always follow the advice of your doctor or healthcare professional. The following should be taken into account when assessing your home for potential hazards: Loose mats and poorly fitted carpets Electrical cords and water hoses Clutter on floor or in walkways Pets, such as cats and small dogs Slippery and wet floors Steps and uneven paving Stairways and isolated areas without grab rails Ill fitting shoes or slippers Slippery socks on tiled surfaces or polished floor boards Poor lighting Mats Outdoor Non-slip Mats An ultra absorbent, extremely hard wearing rubber backed mat designed to prevent trips and falls.
