January 2015 I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : President s Report 1 President-Elect Report 2 KAMSS Annual Conference 3 Treasurer s Report 4 NAMSS..5 The Joint Commission..5 Doctor s Day.5 KAMSS Board 6 Photos from our November meeting 7 President s Report Jan Reed, CPCS It seems like such a short time ago that we had our November KAMSS meeting where we installed our new officers and recognized and thanked our outgoing officers. We recognized Harlene Hoyt (Outgoing Immediate Past-President term) and Stacey Wilkerson (Outgoing Secretary) for their service to KAMSS. They have done a GREAT job for our organization. We also recognized Becky Findley for her service as KAMMS President and who will now become the Immediate Past President. We also installed Karen Reed-Coffman as our new President- Elect/Program Chairman and Taylor Diefenderfer as our new Secretary. Danica Donecker continues on as our Treasurer. Rounding out the new board includes Ashley Boyer our new Western Kansas liaison, replacing Jeanne Hutton, and of course, myself, as President. Karen Reed-Coffman and I recently attended a NAMSS Leadership Conference. I ll talk about that some more a little bit later, but one thing we were asked to do is to think about someone who has impacted our professional lives and what did they do or did specifically that made you choose them. It didn t take me but a second to recognize that person for me as Becky Findley. I see in Becky a very knowledgeable, hardworking, highly organized and compassionate person that I desire to emulate. She will truly be a hard act for me to follow in the KAMSS presidency. One thing I do know: Becky will keep me on task and I know will help me along. I can count on that. Becky, thank you so very, very much for your awesome leadership and for being such an excellent KAMSS President-Elect, President, Newsletter editor, webmaster have I forgotten anything! You wear many hats and the organization and I are incredibly thankful for you. And we thank you! Thank you, Taylor Diefenderfer and the Kansas Heart Hospital for hosting the November meeting. You have a great facility. The March 2015 meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2015, at the McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. You will find more information on the March meeting on page 2. Thank you, Tara Sauder, for hosting this meeting. If you and your hospital/organization would like to host a KAMSS meeting, just let Karen Reed-Coffman know. The Board is also continuing to fine tune our annual conference in June. As you now know, the event will be held at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview, 400 West Douglas in Wichita, on June 11 th and 12th. We re excited about the change in venue and hope you will be, too. You will find more information regarding this conference on page 3. Continued on Page Two

Page 2 January 2015 President s Report continued As I noted earlier, Karen Reed-Coffman and I attended the NAMSS Leadership Boot Camp in WARM and BEAUTIFUL Tucson (if you like cactus!) January 15-16. Yeah, it was tough, but someone had to do it! It was a great conference. We covered a lot of area in a fast-paced environment. I believe 65 people attended and 31 states were represented. We went around the room and each person shared a success and a challenge for their state. Following are a few of the responses. I see all of these as pertinent to our own State organization. Membership retention and grown Leadership training and development (grooming people for leadership) Leadership opportunities encouraging members to volunteer Leaders being willing to delegate Providing education that isn t stale Professional growth As part of the leadership training, we had to write a personal mission statement. We used a tool where we listed our core values and core strengths, as well as considering what we are compassionate about to assist us in writing our mission statement. Try it for yourselves. We ll have you read yours at the next meeting!! Seriously, it wasn t easy, but it was a great exercise. And we only had to share with our table! Anyway, the Boot Camp was a great experience and I want to thank KAMSS for the opportunity to attend. Thank you for being a valuable member of KAMSS and we ll see you in March in McPherson. President-Elect Report Karen Reed-Coffman, CPCS, CPMSM The next KAMSS Business Meeting and Educational Program will be Friday, March 20, 2015 at McPherson Hospital in McPherson. The business meeting begins at 10:30 am, with lunch at Noon, and the educational program at 1:00 pm. He will provide us with a comprehensive review of the Kansas Health Care Provider Insurance Availability Act. Information about this meeting/educational program will be sent out soon. If you and your facility are interested in hosting a future business meeting/educational program, please send an e-mail to KREEDCO@stormontvail.org or call 1-785-354-6245 Continued on Page Three
