2 Let s get started! Each April and October, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsors a nationwide effort to safely dispose of any unwanted or expired prescription drugs. With this campaign, you can educate your employees about prescription drug abuse and simple preventive tactics. 3 Key messages Here s what you ll want employees to take away from this campaign: Prevent drug abuse According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 70,000 emergency room (ER) visits result from unintentional medication overdoses among children under 18.1 Protect your family Over-the-counter medications are involved in about one-third of ER visits for children under age 12.1 Help stop unused medication from ending up in the wrong hands One out of every 151 2-yearolds is treated in an ER for unintentional medication overdose.1 1 Schillie, Sarah F. et al.
