Fibromyalgia is a Pain condition Two key symptoms Pain, all over, all the time Extreme fatigue Exact cause not fully understood, but probably involves Hormone disturbances including low serotonin levels Stress Sleep disorders Genetics
Stopping the Pain of Fibromyalgia- Curcumin and Boswellia Curcumin has been shown in several studies to reduce muscle pain, including one study that found a 20% reduction in inflammatory markers and a 17% reduction in pain scores in adults with muscle pain (from exercise) Curcumin + boswellia relieved arthritis pain more effectively than a prescription NSAID: 14% of patients were pain free after 3 months, versus 7% of the drug group patients WITHOUT adverse effects In rheumatoid arthritis patients, curcumin reduced pain and swelling more effectively than the prescription drug 14% of patients in the drug group dropped out because of adverse effects, while ZERO participants in the curcumin group dropped out In a study of curcumin vs ibuprofen in arthritis patients, curcumin group had less pain and better ability to walk up stairs and walk a distance than the ibuprofen group without adverse effects!
Enhancing the effects of curcumin and boswellia Turmeric essential oil from the same turmeric plant that gives us curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory in its own right In a comparison study, curcuminoids and turmerones from turmeric essential oil each reduced painful swelling (animal model) MORE effectively than 2 prescription drugs Up to a 70% reduction for the drugs, versus 70-75% reduction for curcuminoids and turmerones Frankincense oil contains compounds that help reduce cortisol levels to manage stress, while increasing proteins in the brain that are important for learning, memory and clear thinking Dosage: 600 mg of curcumin, boswellia, turmeric essential oil with turmerones, and frankincense oil twice daily

Listener Question
Ask Terry Dear Terry: My doctor wants me to take a statin drug. I already take curcumin twice a day. What else should I take? One consideration is that I won t take anything with magnesium stearate in it. I am ok with emptying a capsule as long I can avoid the magnesium stearate. S.K. from Indianapolis, IN
Superfoods, Not Comfort Foods, for Stress Relief (3 slides)
America s favorite comfort foods New survey of 2,200 American adults asked what is your favorite comfort food? Top 5 1. Pizza (by a landslide it got double the votes of the second place choice) 2. Chocolate 3. Ice cream 4. Macaroni and cheese 5. Chips 54% of women in the survey said they eat comfort foods when they are stressed Stress causes high cortisol levels; cortisol triggers sugar/carb cravings Some research has also found that belly fat cells linked to increased risk of diabetes have four times as many cortisol receptors as regular fat cells
The problem with pizza Typical fast food, thick crust pizza (Domino s, Pizza Hut, for example), has in one slice: 500-600 calories 1500 mg of sodium (over 60% of the recommended daily maximum intake - 2300 mg) 50 grams of carbohydrates Refined white flour crust Processed meat toppings (pepperoni) containing cancer-causing nitrites
Superfood protection against stress Spinach: contains high levels of magnesium, which helps regulate cortisol production Citrus fruits (oranges, etc): contain high levels of vitamin C, which slows cortisol production The adrenal glands have some of the highest concentration of vitamin C in the body Salmon: source of omega-3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation and cortisol levels Dark chocolate: reduces inflammation and improves focus in a clinical study, participants who consumed 60% dark chocolate were more alert and attentive than the placebo group
