PROBUS Club Of Clarington www.probusclarington.com Volume 1. Issue 7 November 2016 Management Committee PRESIDENT Victoria Girling PAST PRESIDENT Lorraine Veroba Co-VICE PRESIDENTS Angela Tibbles Suzanne Elston SECRETARY Kevin Pumphrey TREASURER Joan Pumphrey SPEAKERS COMMITTEE Karen Cashin MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Lucia Kzanoski SOCIAL COMMITTEE Janice Cutting WEBSITE Nancy Muzik INTERESTS GROUPS John Muzik HOUSE COMMITTEE Marilyn Munro NEWSLETTER Pamela McIlvenny President s Message I would like to start by thanking Carolyn Adams for her contribution as our Vice President since April. Sadly she has recently resigned from this position since she has found retirement extremely busy!!! She is actively involved with her family, but will continue to join us in many of our activities. For the remainder of our club year Angela Tibbles and Suzanne Elston will join the Management Committee as Co-Vice Presidents. At the AGM in April the Vice President position will be open to nominations. Thank you to both Angela and Suzanne for their participation. Our Club is certainly thriving and it is wonderful to hear all the chatter at the General Meetings. There is always room for more and we have now produced a tri-fold brochure which can be given to anyone who may be interested in joining us. Since we are a non-profit Club, with minimal resources, we will not be printing many but if you know of a location where you think some could be left please contact me directly. Some of the Management Committee recently met with other Durham District PROBULS Clubs and there was an excellent sharing of experiences and ideas. The enthusiasm in the room was very contagious and we continue to learn about ideas for making our club as inviting as possible to retirees looking for people with like interests. I want to remind everyone that we do not have a General Meeting in December but are having a Christmas lunch at the Massey House on Wednesday, December 14 th. Seating is limited so if you want to join us please ensure you bring your cheque book to the meeting. Hope to see you on November 2 nd at 10.00am for another excellent speaker and social time. Victoria Our next meeting is November 2 at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Community Church Hall, 75 Liberty St. S. in Bowmanville Our November speaker is John Keating. In his role as Durham Region Police Officer, John was heavily involved in the fraud department. His presentation will be about seniors security- scams and fraud.

Interest Groups News At the October general meeting breakout sessions were held, and as a result two new interest groups were formed; lunch meet and movies. A tentative date of November 15 has been set up for the start of a genealogy club. Maybe 1-3? Basically, interested people would bring their laptops/ tablets to the Courtice library and they would have free access to ancestry.com. They would be able to save their finds and/or print (.25 per page). The idea would be for people to share tips and help each other with their searches and socialize. Once a month meeting. Check the web site for confirmation. Two new groups were suggested at the meeting, wood working and bowling. If you would to join any of the interest groups, or have an idea for a new group, see me at the special interest groups table at the next meeting. Alternately, if you cannot attend the meeting send me your name and I will add you to the list. Please see the website for details of all the Interest Groups that are active. John Muzik

New Interest Groups Afternoon Euchre The Third Thursday of each month a euchre group has been formed from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Games will be hosted in each others homes on a rotating basis. Joan Pumphrey is taking the lead for the group. Anyone interested please contact Joan at kpumphrey2016@bell.net Lunch at Noon The first lunch meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2 at 12:15 at Three-Six Kitchen in Bowmanville, after the monthly general meeting. Contact Paul Halliday. Movie Night This interest group will meet on the 3 rd Tuesday of each month to see a current movie. Many members decided they would prefer a matinee so that we could discuss the film afterwards over some refreshments. The only Cinema offering matinee performances is Landmark in Whitby. We met on October 18 th and our next meeting will be November 15 th. Convenor: Victoria Girling. PHOTOS If you are part of an Interest Group, maybe you could take a photo of your group, not necessarily posed! We are keen to put some photos on the website to share the camaraderie. Send your photos to Nancy Muzik. PLEASE BRING A MUG TO THE GENERAL MEETINGS this cuts down on the cleanup for our House Committee. If anyone is interested in helping this committee with the refreshments set up and clean up please see Marilyn Munro at any of the General Meetings. Any help is gratefully appreciated. NAME BADGES Just a reminder to all members to wear your name badges to all social events and Interest groups. This is good way to get to know each other. Suggestion - If you leave it in your car it will always be there when needed. Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.
