October 2018 Join Your Neighbors at our Next Meeting: Wednesday, Oct 3 @ 7:00 p.m. Guest Speaker: James O'Connor, NYC Dept. of Sanitation ***** (Next meeting: Wednesday, Nov 7, 2018) NBCA meets at Irwin Altman MS172 Beacon School, 81 14 257th Street. Bring a Neighbor! ****Refreshments**** Notes from our President, Jeffrey Connors Hello North Bellerose neighbors: Well Fall is here and before long the leaves will be tumbling down. Treasure this time of the year and enjoy nature. Take advantage of living so close to Alley Pond Park. Walk the Motor Parkway or many of the nature trails and enjoy the changing colors of the leaves. Our September meeting was so well attended that we ran out of seats in the classroom. There were approximately fifty people in attendance. We were given helpful information from Karen Ellis, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and her staff via a power point presentation. Once again thank you Karen and your staff for attending our meeting and for your presentation. Of course one of the main concerns was loud music from a few parties this Summer. I guess the people hosting these parties never learned about common courtesy for their neighbors. Simply keeping the music within the parameters of your own homes, after midnight, would be greatly appreciated. [continued inside, page three] Meetings. The NBCA meets at 7:00 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the Irwin Altman Beacon School, M.S. 172, 81 14 257th Street (except Holidays, July, August and, if determined by the members at the June meeting, January & February meetings can be deferred.). Meetings: Nov. 7 & Dec. 5, 2018 Mar. 6, Apr. 3, May 1 (Nominating Report) & June 5 [Elections], 2019. The NBCA strongly urges members & residents to attend our meetings. If you have a problem, present it in person at a meeting. Join your neighbors for a civic & social get together.

Notes from our President, Jeffrey Connors [President's Message, continued from page one] Also speaking, at our September meeting, was our new commanding officer of the 105 Precinct, Deputy Inspector Netis Gilbert. She discussed many topics including crime and quality of life issues. This was the first time I met her and although she has big shoes to fill she is an excellent fit for this position. Our NCO officers also took questions from the audience and if you ever need to reach them their phone numbers and email addresses are below: Police Officer Shawn Gallagher (929) 375 1056, shawn.gallagher@nypd.org Police Officer Joseph Contessa (917) 863 3557, joseph.contessa@nypd.org. Remember if you see something say something. If it is an emergency call 911 immediately! Sometimes people ask me how can they get involved with our civic even if they can't attend our meetings. I mention that a big help would be their assistance in delivering our newsletter, "Newsbits. Another would be to assist us in obtaining Gift Cards/Certificates from our local merchants for our December holiday raffles. If interested please email or send me a note. My email address is: jconnorsnbca@gmail.com or send your note to: NBCA P.O. Box 744, Floral Park, NY 11002. Delivering "Newsbits" could be for your immediate block or the entire street, from Union Turnpike to Hillside Avenue. Our civic includes all the blocks from Hillside Avenue to Union Turnpike between Commonwealth Boulevard and Little Neck Parkway. At our December 5 Holiday Meeting/Party, to which of course you are invited, we'll have raffles as mentioned above. However to continue this tradition we need more volunteers to help solicit and pick up the raffle donations. Currently just two people perform this task. Our current two coordinators will coach you as to what should be said to the businesses and once you obtain the Gift Cards/Certificates you would give them to the coordinators. It really is quite simple and you will really be helping out and continuing a tradition that has existed for decades at our civics December Holiday Meeting/Party. [continued on page five] 105th Pct Officers Gallagher and Contessa update NBCA.

Notes from our President, Jeffrey Connors [President's Message, continued from page three] Our speaker for our October 3rd meeting will be the Department of Sanitation. They will discuss bulk pick ups, electronics disposal, recycling and the composting program. Questions like the disposal of small appliances televisions and the new rules regarding bulk items will be clarified as well as any other concerns you may have related to the Department of Sanitation. Well I hope you can join us at our next meeting on October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at MS 172 and please bring along a neighbor. We will have refreshments before during and after the meeting! Thank you! Sincerely, Jeff Connors N B C A in A C T I O N Above, 105th Pct. C.O. Deputy Inspector Nereis Gilbert addresses a packed September NBCA meeting.
