2012 CFFCF Event Proceeds to Benefit: Ryan Swick, 33, honored in 2011 as Canton s Firefighter of the Year for saving other people s lives, is now in the midst of a battle for his own. Three years ago Ryan was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer. He has since been through 3 extensive surgeries to have lymph nodes removed, and has endured 3 rounds of chemotherapy treatments. Depsite the aggressive treatments, Ryan s cancer continues to spread. Ryan and his wife, Lori, have two daughters, Shelby, age 2, and Shylei, age 1. The Swick family is facing financial stress with mounting medical expenses and loss of income. Canton Firefighter Ryan Swick Karyn Jordan, age 9, suffers from muscular dystrophy. She requires 24 hour care as she cannot draw a breath, move or eat on her own. Despite these life threatening conditions, Karyn maintains an angelic disposition. The apparatus necessary for her care is bulky, heavy and requires a significant amount of space to transport her. The family s exorbitant medical bills have prevented them from upgrading their primary vehicle with one that has adequate space and safety requirements for transporting Karyn. Karyn Jordan, age 9 Karyn has a younger brother with a milder case of the same disease who also requires specialized care and transportation.
