Peer Supporters Call for volunteers Love to have that extra bit to put on your resume? Here s your chance! We are looking for Peer Supporters as part of our International Student Peer Support Program which is there to assist our new international students each semester into settling in to life at the Gippsland Campus and Australia. We will be providing training (you can t be a Peer Supporter without undertaking this training) before the end of the exam period to have you ready for our new students arriving in Semester 2. Skilled Visa/PR Information Session Immigration information session Staff from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) will be on campus to deliver presentations on Skilled visas. STAFF PROFILE LIANA BRENNAN CAREERS AND EMPLOYMENT Hi! My name is Liana Brennan and I am the latest addition to the Student Connect Team! I work alongside Jahna Pulford in the role of Careers and Employment Officer for Gippsland. My major focus is to assist students to gain part-time / casual employment. Part-time / casual employment is a significant part of your training to gain experience and develop your work skills, ready for your goal career. This type of work will also support you financially whilst you study and help you develop relationships within the local community. Through the Federation University Student Website, you will find the Career Hub, which is where you can see vacancies and application processes for individual positions. It also has some great resources to assist you to prepare your Resume, write covering letters, information on interview techniques and so much more! So logon today and check it out! Final Semester Program Tuesday 3 rd June We will be holding our Final Semester program for international students on Tuesday 3 rd June, this includes a Careers Session Dress to Impress and a celebration morning tea in the Student Union Lounge. Will you be completing your degree here at Gippsland this semester? This program is for you. Gives you an opportunity to celebrate with your lecturers and other staff who have helped you while you have been here. Also a chance to obtain some vital information about either returning home or remaining in Australia after you graduate. Globall Program Are you interested in seeing an Australian Rules Football match in Melbourne? Student Connect will be providing a bus to take students down to the match happening on Sunday 20 th July - Western Bulldogs vs. Essendon at Etihad Stadium. To register for the bus please call into Student Connect 3N102 or send your name, Student ID, mobile phone number to freda.webb@federation.edu.au Places on the bus are limited so let us know as soon as possible. To get your FREE ticket to the football game you will need to log on to the GLoBALL website http://globall.com.au/ and click on the REGISTER NOW button. ISA Events for May FREE Footy Trip GLoBALL is a fantastic joint initiative run by the Essendon Football Club, Cricket Victoria and Netball Victoria. With support from the state government, this program uses sport to introduce international students to Aussie culture. GLoBALL offers students the opportunity to make new friends, connect with sporting clubs and community sporting activities and to be actively involved in one of Australia s favourite and much loved past times. The GLoBALL program has kindly given us a limited number of free tickets to an AFL game. 20 th July @ 7:40pm Essendon vs Western Bulldogs Etihad Stadium, Docklands Victoria To secure yourself a ticket to the game you will need to log on to the GLoBALL website http://globall.com.au/ and click on the REGISTER NOW button. Once you have registered your details for the July 20 th game please let the International Student Support Office know so that we can save you a seat on the bus. It is sure to be a great bus trip down and a cracka of a game!
