Suffolk Lions are ending the Lions Year 2014-2015 with a flurry of fund-raisers in May and the installation of new officers in June. A training session for the new officers was held at the Hampton Inn in Farmingville on May 16. LCI is offering a series of informative webinars as per details on Page 3. Our district was honored to have International President Lion Joe Preston at the Fall Conference in last November. Thanks to the arrangements coordinated by our District Governor Lion Skip Meinhold, it was an exciting evening. A message from our International President on ending this year. There s still time to earn your pin and paws in the Lions Pride Award! Here what you can do to earn your recognition in Period 2: Promote the Centennial Membership Awards There s no better way to motivate and reward your clubs for adding new members. Charter One Club you ll automatically earn recognition in Period 2. Period 2 ends June 30, 2015, so make sure you re in position to earn your Lions Pride Award! Lions have impacted more than 30 million people through the Centennial Service Challenge. To help reach our goal of helping 100 million people, I d like you to encourage your clubs to host at least one more service project by the end of your term. Service is a great a great way for clubs to strengthen their communities, find new members and earn a Centennial Banner Patch by reporting their Centennial projects through MyLCI. Let s work together to build our legacy of service, and a better world for all. It is time to honor our District Governor Edward Skip Meinhold at his testimonial dinner on Friday June 5 at Captain Bill s Restaurant in BayShore. Please see Page 2 for details. We would like a head count by May 30. So please respond if you have not yet done so. We want to get our new directory done as soon as the year starts in July. All clubs should submit the PU101 forms as soon as the new officers are installed. This will greatly enable to communicate important news quickly. The district also needs to fill a number of positions as detailed on Page 6. Please consider volunteering for one of these positions. News from the New York State Convention in Binghamton (April 24 April 26): Met & heard 1 st International Vice President Lion Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada, the Convention Speaker. Voted to endorse Lion Bob Lubin as the next International Director to represent New York. Voted to approve the revised Constitution and Bylaws changes for our District. CST/PDG Lion Lorri Rieger presented a seminar on how we got Long Island Lions Quest up and running so other parts of NYS can replicate our model. Elected the following slate of District 20-S officers for Lions Year 2015-2016: Lion Manny Vidal Jr. as District Governor. Lion Balan Nagraj as 1 st Vice District Governor. Lion Andrew Calev as 2 nd Vice District Governor. Coming Up Saturday June 6: The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind is having the Annual Lions Recognition Day at their location at 371, East Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown. The event runs from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. It includes a tour of their premises, presentations by some of our clubs and refreshments.
