DR ERWIN GROENEVELD MBBS (Qld) FRANZCO Fellowship trained Vitreous and Retina Surgeon with expertise in Age Related Macular Disease, Retinal vascular disease, Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery. Dr Erwin Groeneveld has served as a senior visiting consultant, advanced training supervisor and director of ophthalmology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. His main interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical and medical diseases of the retina and vitreous including age related macular degeneration, vision threatening diabetic retinopathy, complex retinal detachment, ocular trauma, epiretinal membrane, macular hole and the management of posterior segment complications of eye surgery. Born in Sydney and educated in Queensland, he attended the University of Queensland Medical School where he completed studies towards his medical degree and won the Anatomical Dissection Prize. He has served as an officer in the Australian Army Reserve, as an AusAID surgeon in the Pacific and on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist s State Executive as chairman, secretary, treasurer, and member of College Council and Qualification & Education committee. He has completed rotations as the Medical Director of the Rivercity Private Day Hospital, a Director of the Queensland Eye Hospital, a Director of the Queensland Eye Institute and as a Member of the Peninsula Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee. His clinical experience as a Visiting Medical Officer extended to the Mater Mother s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where he visited for many years to detect retinopathy of prematurity in extremely low birth weight infants. She commenced Ophthalmology training as a registrar in 2003 in Queensland and was appointed to the role of Senior Registrar in 2007 in her final year of training. Dr Chan has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Brisbane Eye Clinic since late 2008, which is located in the Brisbane CBD and Aspley. She practices General Adult Ophthalmology and focuses her practice on the management of Cataract cases. Her surgeries are performed at the Peninsula Private Hospital, Redcliffe; Vision Eye Institute, Auchenflower and Eyetech Day Surgeries, Mt Gravatt. Dr Chan is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She is involved in regular training of GP registrars with ophthalmology workshops for the Metro North Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice Training Queensland and provides lectures to local optometrists and General Practitioners. EMERGENCY EYE CARE A Consultant Ophthalmologist is On Call 7 days per week for emergency eye care relating to sudden vision loss and retinal tear or detachment. Referring Optometrists should contact our main line 07 3832 1700 to access our Ophthalmologist after hours. If no response, please leave a message and the doctor will respond promptly. To access Medicare and Health Fund rebates, all emergency eye care patients require a current referral from an Optometrist, Ophthalmologist or Hospital Emergency Department. CATARACTS AND GLAUCOMA We have a proven record for providing effective, ethical advice and treatments for patients with cataracts and glaucoma. We use modern surgical laser and imaging techniques for the management of these conditions and we audit our results to maintain our strong focus on quality outcomes. INTERPRETER SERVICE An interpreter service is available for those patients who do not speak English.
