September is: NATIONAL SEWING MONTH - Please be sure and sew something cool today and tomorrow and.. The Lincoln County Extension Office will be closed Monday, September 3, 2018 for Labor Day!!! Hooray for Grandparents Day As a parent, it is difficult to find the time and resources to meet the ever growing needs of my children. However, I may have overlooked one of the best resources of all grandparents. Research indicates grandparents offer invaluable resources to grandchildren including emotional support such as listening or offering advice. They also help with more physical support, such as companionship and help with chores and transportation. Some may even offer financial support. Another study revealed that not only do grandchildren benefit from support from grandparents, but grandparents who support their grandchildren have less depressive symptoms than grandparents who were not involved in their grandchildren s lives. These research findings highlight the value of grandparentgrandchild relationships, revealing the healthy importance of building and maintaining these vital relationships. In addition to the benefits both grandparents and grandchildren receive from spending time together, parents also receive a much needed break while feeling confident that their children are in good hands. So, with September 9th being Grandparent Day, let s not forget to show them how much we love them by spending time together. After all, everyone benefits! Family & Consumer Sciences Newsletter Page 4
