Also, please be proud to display your membership card to the bartenders before receiving your first beverage, as this is a requirement of our liquor license. Kenneth Brennick, Governor Man of the Month I am happy to name the man of the month for October. This gentleman is around the Lodge quite often helping. He busses often on Taco Nights, decorates the dining room for different occasions, etc. He and his wife have a band named the Wanna-bees and donated their time on Labor Day to supply us with wonderful music for our Labor Day get together. It is with great pleasure to name Frank Cowan the Venice Moose Man of the Month. 2
Senior Regent s Message I attended the September 5-9 Florida Bermuda Moose Association (FBMA) 71 st Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. This was the second FBMA Conference that I have attended since being elected an officer of WOTM. It was great to meet up with many of the co-workers that I had met at the first conference and to meet new Moose friends. The overall theme of the conference was Moose on a Mission which includes increasing fundraising efforts for Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Several different ways to donate to Mooseheart and Moosehaven were discussed: Moose Boosters, Donors Circle, Endowment, and Fraternal Fundraising. The sessions were not just very informative, but they were so much fun! We enjoyed skits, parades, music and dancing. The conventions are not only for officers of the Moose, but are open to any co-worker who would like to attend and learn more about our fraternal organization. The next FBMA Convention will be held in Orlando on April 11 th through the 14 th, 2019. I encourage our co-workers to attend. If you have any questions about the FBMA conventions, please see me and I can provide you with additional information. One of several highlights of the convention was our very own Joanne Foreman, Junior Graduate Regent, who was awarded her Green Cap. This is such a great accomplishment both for Joanne and for our Chapter. The Green Cap is awarded to Senior Regents of Chapters who have earned the Award of Achievement. There are several requirements and goals that must be met in order to earn the Green Cap, and Joanne was successful in completing all requirements. Congratulations Joanne Foreman on your coveted achievement!!! Another highlight was attending the Pilgrim of the Order Ceremony. Our administrator, Bob Anderson, attained this prestigious degree, the highest honor of the Loyal Order of the Moose. This honor only goes to devoted members who have shown fraternal leadership through the years, serving as officers, mentors, and cooks, etc. Congratulations Bob Anderson on such a prestigious award! Lastly, the Venice Chapter of the Woman of the Moose was awarded 2 nd place as a Top Producer by the FBMA. This was a wonderful surprise! 1 st place was Anna Maria Island, and 3 rd place was Dunnellon. Congratulations to the Venice WOTM!!! Let s keep the momentum going! Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success. Henry Ford God Bless Mooseheart! Betty Miller WOMAN OF THE MONTH Our Woman of the Month joined the Moose in August of 2003. She quickly became involved as an active member of our lodge and you can occasionally see her sing with her husband Frank in the lodge, in the Venice Moose Float for the Christmas Parade, and at the Venice Moose Lodge Christmas party for the children. In addition, she volunteers in the social quarters serving food and bussing tables. It is such a delight to have her as part of our Moose family! Congratulations Janis Cowan on being our Woman of the Month!!! Thank you for all you do!!! We look forward to working with you for years to come! WOMEN OF THE MOOSE Chapter 758 111 N. Moose Legion News Thanksgiving Day is approaching! This is a big day for Venice Lodge Moose Legionnaires. Our Thanksgiving Day turkey dinner will be served at Venice Moose Lodge #1308. It is an important fundraiser for us. Please, if you are available, step up and offer your help in preparing or serving the meal. We need cooks, servers in the serving line, and people to deliver food to the tables. The Moose Legion is the Degree of Service. Help is needed. I am a relative newbee to the lodge and it is my desire to spread the duties to as many as possible so that the same workers are not asked to constantly be taxed. If you are willing to be of assistance, call the lodge and leave a message, including your phone number, for me to return your call. I will get back to you. Better yet, attend our next Moose Legion meeting on Monday, October 1, 2018, at 6:45 p.m. and offer to be of help. Speaking of attending meetings, we have over 100 Moose Legionnaires at our lodge, but only a handful attend the meetings. I would like to meet many legionnaires, not just a token few. Not that the guys I have met are not great, they are. But, new faces are always welcome! Come to a meeting, socialize, and get to know one another. We are looking for new ideas for fun and fellowship. You might just be the one who offers a new idea to inject new life and get the Moose Legion more active. Bob Anderson and I attended the Moose Legion celebration in Punta Gorda on September 15. Several new members from various lodges had the Degree of Service conferred on them. We have a couple of men from our lodge who will soon be joining our ranks, possibly at the next celebration held in December. This would be a good opportunity to be conferred. Applications are available as you enter the lodge. Speak to a Moose Legionnaire who will be happy to sponsor you. More information will be forthcoming as to the date and location. Until next month, remember to do something good for someone each day!! Bob Fultz, Moose Legion Chairman VALUED VETERANS MEETING The Moose Lodge 1308 Valued Veterans will meet at 2 PM at the Moose Lodge on Saturday, October 27. We now have 190 veterans who have signed up for the Lodge 1308 Valued Veterans Activity Group. There are some members who have identified themselves as Valued Veterans with Moose International but have not filled out and submitted the form for the Activities Group. The form is located in the hallway across from the women s washroom. You must submit this form to the office or to a bartender to be eligible to attend special functions of the Valued Veterans Activities Group, such as the luncheon in November. There are no dues or fees to belong to the Activities Group. We have members from all branches of service, both men and women. Membership ranges from WWII veterans through active service members. Some of our objectives are to provide social opportunities for our veterans, identify activities relevant to our veterans, connect any veteran to community resources, and find ways to help each other with concerns or issues. If you have any questions you may contact me or President George Barnes, Vice President Linda Metro, or Treasurer Dan Robinson.
