Innovations in Breast Ultrasound Course Overview This continuing education activity has been planned for radiologists and other physicians involved in breast imaging and intervention. Recent advancements in the field of breast imaging with a focus on breast ultrasound will be highlighted. Content will address the assessment of cysts, solid breast nodules and regional lymph nodes. Participants will be actively involved in a hands-on workshop on ultrasound-guided interventional procedures under faculty guidance. At the completion of the activity the attendee should have a better understanding of breast ultrasound and imaging techniques and how to integrate them into their practice. Needs Assessment Changes and advancements in breast imaging have had significant impact on how breast problems both benign and malignant are diagnosed and treated. The radiologist and interventionalists need to advance their clinical expertise and competency related to the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of breast problems. They need to understand the indications and techniques of ultrasound, how to perform sonographic evaluation and ultrasound-guided interventional techniques. The trend is toward breast centers and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. Practice Gaps Physicians attending previous courses indicated that they required additional skills in performing Ultrasound Guided interventional procedures specific to diagnosis of breast problems. They needed to increase their understanding and application of ultrasound assessment techniques, use an algorithm for imaging and have additional knowledge for interpreting findings. Target Audience This continuing education activity has been planned for radiologists and interventionalists who are involved in diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast cysts, nodules and regional lymph nodes. Methodology-Format This live course includes lectures, panel discussions and challenging cases specific to ultrasound assessment. Workshops will provide opportunity for skill building in Ultrasound-Guided Interventional procedures. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course the physician should be able to: 1. Discuss the techniques involved in performing ultrasound assessment of difficult cysts, solid breast nodules and regional lymph nodes. 2. Outline an algorithm for selection of image-guided biopsy modalities. 3. Discuss the techniques that are utilized in navigation and correlation by interventionalists. 4. Demonstrate in a hands-on workshop ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
