The Ceres Unified School District for providing the staff time for coordination of the Collaborative The Ceres Unified Grants Department staff for countless hours toward meeting preparation and set up. School sites for providing staff time to assist with inviting parents and to attend the meetings. Local business and community representatives for attending and supporting the efforts of the City and school district in providing programs and services to all the families and children of the Ceres community. Ceres Unified Child Nutrition Services for providing the lunch items. Ceres Unified Technology staff for providing technical support and set-up for every meeting. 1. Information Presentation 1. Summer School and After School Programs Dallas Plaa, Coordinator, Educational Options, Ceres Unified Dallas presented information about the various programs within the Educational Options Department, including the following: Elementary Summer School K-5 Kinder Camp for incoming kinder students Secondary Summer School 6-8 and 9-12 Adult Education ASES After School Education and Safety Program AIP Academic Intervention AED Academic Extended Day credit recovery program for high school students Factor new family engagement program STEP Student teacher Educator s Program For more information, visit the Ceres unified Educational Options webpage at http://www.ceres.k12.ca.us/student_support/educational_options or call 209-556-1556. 2. ASES After School Education and Safety Michelle Madrigal, Ceres Unified Michelle presented the audience an opportunity to complete a community survey related to the after school ASES program. Attendees were given a few minutes to complete the survey and ask questions about the program. The ASES program is offered at 17 school campuses through support provided by the state ASES grant and local LCAP funding. Close to $3 million annually is allocated to after school programs. Ceres High Manufacturing Academy Tracey Clark, Lead Teacher Tracey presented information about the Ceres High Manufacturing Academy. 173 students enrolled during the 17/18 school year in grades 9-12. The Academy has a focus on green technologies and engineering. The CHS Academy was recognized in 2016 as 1 of only 7 academies state- wide to earn the Distinguished Academy status. In 2017, the CHS Academy was awarded the distinction as a Lighthouse Academy, sharing best practices across the state with similar academies. In 2018, the CHS Academy received the Pathway Excellence award from the National Career Pathways Network. 55 students participated in solar install job shadowing this year 79 students earned college credits while in the Academy through a dual credit agreement with Modesto Junior College. 6 students, several teachers and CHS admin visited the state capital to lobby for continued funding for career academies. Students also participated in a variety of programs including, meeting monthly with a business industry mentor, participating in mock interviews, taking tours of local industry and college visits, and participated in cross-curricular projects. Project YES Dustin Pack, Program Director Dustin presented information on the new Project Yes technology program being offered this summer as a 6-week boot camp training. At the time of the meeting there were 20 open enrollment slots available. Eligible applicants include students who are 17 and going to be seniors in the 18/19 school year, as well as 18 year olds who are recent high school graduates. Students will be learning how to build a website and then will build one for a small local business, or a local non-profit, (the business/non-profit will need to supply the website content, including photos, graphics, business facts, etc.). Open enrollment is 6/1/18 and classes start on 6/18/18. The Tech Program course will also be offered this fall as well. Project Yes is also seeking to offer this course after school during the 18/19 school year. This course is free for both the student and the participating business /non-profit. 2. Upcoming Events and Partner Announcements 1. Upcoming Activities City of Ceres Parks and Recreation The Summer/Fall 2018 Activity Guide has been released. Copies are available for pick up at the Ceres Community Center Summer Concerts in the Park The City of Ceres will debut its 2018 summer Concerts in the Park series on June 5 at 6:30 p.m. with local country artist Greg Scudder and the Beer:30. The city-sponsored Concerts in the Park series will held Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Whitmore Park in downtown Ceres until July. There is no admission fee for attendance. The Ceres Firefighters Association will be the lone food vendor at the concerts, offering barbecued selections For more information, please contact the Ceres Parks and Recreation Department at 538-5782.
