Your Mental Health Network Debate We lead the national debate on mental health. On behalf of our members, we help shape and challenge national mental health policy. We make sense of the broader political and policy environment and work to spread best practice and innovation. Update We ensure members are kept up to date with the latest news and developments impacting on the sector. Members benefit from: the latest policy briefings delivered to your door personal updates from the MHN s chief executive, Stephen Dalton regular e-bulletins full access to the MHN website with exclusive member-only content. Connect Through our programme of high-quality events, we bring mental health leaders together with senior people from national bodies, politics and academia. Our events programme includes: annual conference and exhibition bespoke member meetings private dinners policy seminars MHN sessions at the NHS Confederation annual conference.

Working on behalf of members In 2015/16 we worked hard on your behalf to effectively influence government policy, stimulate debate and keep you updated about the key issues affecting your organisation. This is our year, working on your behalf. In 2015/16, the MHN team met with chief executives and chairs of MHN member organisations over 150 times. In 2015/16, the MHN team met with government ministers, chief executives and chairs of national arm s-length bodies, over 30 times. In 2015/16, the MHN team met with chief executives, chairs and directors of major national stakeholders over 100 times. March 2015 160 delegates attended the MHN annual conference and exhibition in London, hearing from speakers including Simon Stevens. 94 per cent of attendees said they would recommend the event to a colleague. Members in the north of England attended an exclusive dinner with Sir Keith Pearson and Ian Cumming of Health Education England. The MHN s chief executive, Stephen Dalton, joined the Mental Health Taskforce board. George Osborne pledged 1.25billion for CAMHs in the pre-election budget. Ten members from organisations providing mental and physical health services met with Andy Burnham MP. April 2015 Ahead of the UK general election, mental health featured highly in party manifestos, reflecting content from our Manifesto for better mental health with the Mental Health Policy Group. The MHN s policy director, Rebecca Cotton, chaired the group during the election year. Ten members from organisations providing mental and physical health services met with Simon Stevens to discuss the Five Year Forward View. We published a new briefing for members, Preparing for a CQC inspection. May 2015 Forty members attended an event to explore opportunities for commercial and public sector collaboration. We published Improving England s mental health: The first 100 days and beyond with the MHPG. In response, the government re-confirmed their pledge to invest 1.25 billion in CAMHs. June 2015 At the NHS Confederation annual conference, over 120 delegates attended an MHN session to hear from Paul Farmer and Simon Stevens. 200 delegates attended a further session on the future provider landscape. We hosted a private meeting for members to meet with the Mental Health Taskforce s chair, Paul Farmer.

October 2015 September 2015 We published a new briefing - Horizon scanning: The legislative landscape in mental health. Ten members from organisations providing mental and physical health services met with David Behan, chief executive of the CQC. At the Conservative and Labour party conferences, we held a series of roundtables and private meetings with parliamentarians, including with the new shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander and employment minister Lord Freud. We hosted a small dinner for members with Alistair Burt MP, minister of state for community and social care. November 2015 The Chancellor s Spending Review pledged 600 million additional funding for mental health services. January 2016 Ahead of the publication of the Mental Health Taskforce report, the MHN, along with MHPG colleagues, met with Simon Stevens. December 2015 Seventy members attended an MHN event about innovation in safety and practice. Speakers included Paul Farmer, Luciana Berger MP, Janssen s Dr Husseini Manji and Joe Rafferty, chief executive of Mersey Care NHS Trust. Over 90 per cent of attendees said they would recommend the event to a colleague. We held the first meeting of the Workforce Reference Group, chaired by Sheena Cumiskey and Paul Jenkins. The group guides the work of our National Workforce Project, supported by NHS Employers and Health Education England, which will continue into 2016/17. February 2016 Our ImROC programme, a joint initiative with the Centre for Mental Health, held its annual conference Recovery in times of adversity. March 2016 Delegates at our annual conference, taking place on 9 March, will hear from Simon Stevens, Jim Mackey, Janet Davies and Professor Sir Simon Wessely.
