THE ROTARY CLUB OF BUFFALO: A social enterprise that delivers social change. The Rotary Club of Buffalo is made up of committed neighbors, community and business leaders dedicated to making Western New York a better place to live since 1911. It s amazing what we can accomplish when hearts and minds work together. Since 1989 the club has awarded grants of more than $1.8 million to a range of local community organizations. We create opportunities. As a member of the Buffalo Rotary, the original social network, you ll have opportunities to keep informed on current events, community issues, and business trends through lunches each Thursday with dynamic and inspiring speakers. Network and make lasting friendships with our area s leading business and professional people. What do our members say? This is my opportunity to build a brighter future for our community s children and youth. -Nora Eberl, joined 2011 As a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo, I m creating a better community where people can live, work, and play. -Paul Marzello, joined 1984 Connecting with our community and each other will always be a driving force behind the Rotary Club of Buffalo. -Katharine Smith, joined 2011 Please send your application and profile by email or mail. BUFFALO ROTARY COMMITTEE INFORMATION Fundraising responsible for running several different fundraisers throughout the year such as: rubber duck derby, Queen of Hearts drawing, Craft Beer and Wines of the World tasting event, trivia contest, among others. Each of these fundraisers have subcommittees that require help. You could assist with ticket sales, sponsorships, or silent auction, for example. Enchanted Evening this committee sets up 3 to 4 evening social events each year. Our enchanted evenings take place at different locations (we try to stay within the city of Buffalo). Involves booking the event, setting up catering, setting up bar, getting liquor license (when applicable) and insurance certificate. Community Grants responsible for vetting every request that comes to the club for a grant (large or small dollar amounts, local or international organizations). Committee members are given a grant proposal and then meet with the requester s contact at their location to validate the legitimacy of the grant request. There is a very well developed guideline for making grant decisions. Membership responsible for creating a Rotary member profile that assists our members in recommending new members; mentors new members and assists them in become acclimated and involved in the club. Committee also works on member retention and reaches out to those members who seem to be missing lunch meetings. Programs responsible for reaching out to the community to book the weekly speaker. Public Relations/Social Media responsible for press releases, inviting media to attend specific events. Updates social media: posts to club s Facebook page and Twitter account. Creates club marketing materials. Service Fund Drive sets up fund drive asking our members to support the club by monetarily contributing to the Buffalo Rotary Foundation. This money helps fund the club s grants as well as other worthy community causes. Vocational Services responsible for member-to-member interaction, such as Service Above Self Day (hands-on community service project), the club s tradeshow (when members showcase their businesses), round table lunch meeting (where members get to know each other), social networking events (new member open houses and recruitment; casual networking member events) and offsite meetings (visiting local companies and learning more about them). Youth Services responsible for Youth Exchange (includes WNY high school students who attend school in a foreign country and students from abroad who attend high school locally for one year). Handles the Lorraine mentoring program (Buffalo elementary students who are mentored by Rotary member who act as a big sister or brother). Other programs include working with Interact (high school students who do community projects), Slapshot and RYLA (two different annual events where high school and college-age students learn about leadership skills in a retreat setting).
