Jordyn 14 YEARS OLD acute lymphoblastic leukemia Jordyn s STORY When Jordyn was 15 months old, she passed out at the dinner table and went into cardiac arrest. DOCTORS LEARNED SHE SUFFERED FROM ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA, THE MOST COMMON FORM OF CHILDHOOD CANCER. After several years of treatment that included chemotherapy, radiation therapy and a bone marrow transplant, Jordyn was still sick in November 2009 and she was out of options. Her parents were advised to take her home and give her the best quality of life for the time she had left. Her parents knew without treatment, Jordyn would most likely pass away within four to six weeks, but they would not give up. Jordyn s mom remembers thinking, There s got to be something else. And that s when Jordyn s parents began to notice the commercials on TV for St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. One TV spot in particular featured Jennifer Aniston and a little girl who looked to be Jordyn s age. St. Jude had helped save her life. AT ST. JUDE: St. Jude had developed a revolutionary transplant procedure and chemotherapy regimen that gave Jordyn another fighting chance. The procedure made it possible for parents to donate bone marrow and cancer-fighting white blood cells even if they were not an exact match to the patient. Thanks to this breakthrough procedure, Jordyn s father was able to donate cells to his daughter. The bone marrow transplant was a success. St. Jude has given us the gift of life, said her mom. We re truly grateful. Today, Jordyn visits St. Jude for regular checkups.
