I am interested in many different types of plumbing systems for commercial and institutional facilities. Domestic water, hot water recirculation, sanitary, vent, natural gas and storm piping are of the most interest to me. My job requires me to be knowledgable about these systems so I am always trying to learn as much as possible about them. I also enjoy educating our younger engineers about these types of systems and the various products on the market that we need to consider for our projects. I am very interested in helping educate our younger engineers. I had the opportunity to grow in this industry because the more experienced engineers that I worked with were willing to share their knowledge and took the time to educate me when I first started. It is my desire to do the same for those young engineers that are now entering our profession so that they get a good understanding and base of knowledge so that they too can excel. I believe it is my responsibility to help mentor these young engineers in an effort to help them and our industry grow. I am running for the position of President because I believe that I am now ready to lead this Society. The experience that I have gained while previously serving as the Society Vice President Technical, Vice President Education and Region 2 Director have prepared me well to take on this new challenge. In addition, my service on numerous ASPE Committees has exposed me to many other facets of the Society and has given me a deeper understanding of what this organization is all about. Over the past few years our Society has slowly changed for the better financially and in my opinion our educational programs are the best around. I want to continue this trend and further strengthen our financial position while reaching out to younger engineers in this industry to help grow our Society. During my previous terms as a member of the Board of Directors, I have worked very hard at developing and accomplishing many goals of the Society while actively fulfilling the duties of the positions that I have held. If elected, I will continue my hard work in helping this Society grow and succeed. I am a very organized person that is goal oriented and I believe that these traits will help me be very successful as the next President of the Society. Through my leadership, I will make sure that our Society is well informed and that we try to work together as a team to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves.

It is my belief that we need to work harder at attracting new members to the Society while educating the younger generation about our profession. There are many engineers and designers in our industry that are not aware of what we have to offer. We need to have our Chapters reaching out to principals and employees of engineering firms in their local areas and educating them on the benefits of ASPE and how this Society can benefit their firms. We also need to reach out to the local schools more frequently than just National Engineers Week and educate those students about our industry and how they can make an impact. The finances of the Society have improved over the past few years due to the selling of the building and some difficult decisions by the Board of Directors that I have been a part of. To substantially increase our financial position, we need to increase our membership and that increase in members will naturally boost our publication sales, webinar participation and attendance at the Convention and Symposium. We also need to continue to offer top notch educational programs and technically solid publications that our members and friends of ASPE are willing to invest in. In addition, we need to continue to develop our relationships with those organizations that we have worked with in the past in an effort to advertise the APSE name and hopefully appeal to a broader range of potential members.

ASPE needs to find ways to reach out to those members who are not actively participating in Chapter / Society sponsored activities. These members don't necessarily have to become a Chapter Officer or Committee Member (but it sure would be great if they considered doing so) but by not participating, they are not getting the full benefit of their membership. The Chapters and the Society offers many different free or reasonably priced educational programs that are designed to increase the participants awareness and knowledge of Plumbing systems. If these non-participating members could see and understand how these programs could benefit them, then maybe they would start becoming a more active member and take full advantage of their membership in the Society. The Delegates should vote for me because of my past achievements and commitment to the Society. I have accomplished many goals while serving on the Board of Directors for the benefit of the Society and am not afraid to take charge and do what it takes to complete a project. Through my leadership and efforts along with the outstanding help of the Technical & Research Committee and the ASPE Staff, I believe we have made a lot of progress on our technical publications these past two years. This past experience has prepared me well to take on my next challenge as the Society President.
