Kiwanis Kids & Builders Club Kiwanis Kids Kiwanis Kids is an international student-led service organization for elementary students. Kiwanis Kids help members develop into strong, well-rounded individuals. Through Kiwanis Kids, members will develop selfesteem, leadership skills, morals and standards, and respect for others. Kiwanis Kids members plan and participate in service projects- performing service to their community. Not only are they are improving and changing their community but also themselves. Builders Club Builders Club is the largest student-led service organization for middle school students. In 1975, the first Builders Club was chartered. Today, there are more than 1,600 clubs around the world and more than 45,000 Builders Club members worldwide. Not only can clubs be established at schools but community-based clubs can be established at churches, libraries, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs, lodges or similar facilities. Builders Club members will be able to serve their school and community as they are taught to work together and become servant-leaders; Builders Club will help students develop into leaders at school, in their community, and in the world. Core Values Caring Character Building Inclusiveness Leadership Mission Kiwanis Kids and Builders Club are international student-led organizations providing members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Vision To develop competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of service. Page 3

Bring Up Grades (BUG) & Terrific Kids Bring Up Grades Bring Up Grades, also known as BUG, is a program that gives students the opportunity to improve academically and rewards them for their academic achievements. Students create a goal for themselves and once achieved, BUG recognizes those students who improved their grades into an acceptable range. BUG helps students build selfconfidence, perseverance, character, and also helps them make the right decisions. Students Will Learn Helpful study tips How to set and reach goals How to raise your grades As a BUG Participant You will be competing against your own personal best, not against other students. Be a Super BUG A Super BUG is someone who takes the time to help other class members improve in their studies and raise their grades. Terrific Kids Terrific Kids is a student-recognition program. Terrific is an acronym for thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive, and capable. The program allows students to work with their teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or school work. Those students who accomplish their goal are recognized as a Terrific Kid, given a pizza, ice cream or other food-themed party, and presented certificates and other giveaways. Thoughtful Enthusiastic Respectful Responsible Inclusive Friendly Inquisitive Capable Page 4

Why should Key Clubs co-sponsor? Elementary school and middle school students often look up to high school students as role models. Key Club members can positively influence younger students and share with them their interests and values. They can provide mentorship and opportunities for the younger generation to serve the community and give back. Also, having multiple service clubs can help your community, benefit future children, and even help expand Kiwanis International. This will allow us to reach out to more places in need of help, and to raise more money to combat serious issues in our world. By reaching out and cosponsoring a K-Kids or Builders Club, you are inspiring another person and possibly planting the seed for greater feats in the future. Lastly, Key Club members can help provide the youth with the chance to soar and help them get started on the right path. Many kids, especially in today s society, are exposed to many negative influences in the media and in their community. It is important to encourage them to do the right things and make the right choices, and a Kiwanis Kids or a Builders Club is the ideal way to do just that. Page 5

How can Key Clubs co-sponsor? 1. Find Help potential Kiwanis Kids and Builders Club members find advisors, more members, and a place to meet. Help them get tools such as posters and brochures to spread the word. Create a prospective list of members. Visit their school and talk to them to encourage and inspire leadership and service. Help them find what they need to charter. 2. Lead Make sure that they are organized, have turned in all their paperwork, and prepared. Also, you can help them set up a day for officer training. You could be a guest speaker or even lead a workshop. Prepare them for a successful year by taking the initiative and leading the cosponsorship. 3. Serve Think about joint events that you could host with them, and help them find ways to serve the community. Possible Events: Celebrating Kiwanis Family Month (November) Developing a joint fundraising project for our preferred charities Recruiting new members at orientation Donating supplies Reading to struggling students Page 6

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Why should a school or community organization add a new club? Builder s Club and Kiwanis Kids are different from most service clubs because they arere service-led, and designed for middle school and elementary school students. Having one can give youth an early chance to develop leadership skills and participate in the Kiwanis Family. What are the benefits of membership? Involvement in Kiwanis Kids or Builders Club provides the opportunity to develop self-esteem, leadership skills, morals and standards and respect for others. This program involves students, their parents, teachers and Kiwanis members in developing a character education opportunity as well as exposure to the concepts of community service and service learning. Why should I help? Helping to co-sponsor a Kiwanis Kids or Builders Club will expand the ways you can positively affect your community, and will give you an opportunity to work with younger kids. They may even look up to you as a role model. Page 7
