Northeast High School Women s Volleyball Expectations Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming. ~ John R. Wooden As a team we will be supporting one another in our pursuit of self-satisfaction on and off the court. We must remember that we can always improve in all aspects of our lives (relationships, health, education, athletics, etc.). There will be times in our experiences where we will feel knocked down but this is when you must remember to seek out the support of your family, coaches, and teammates to remind you of your strength and give you motivation to persevere. Attendance Policy (non-excused) In order to support one another to reach our team s highest potential, practicing together is a necessity. To help maintain a clear focus on our growth we must have high expectations for each other. Miss a practice = miss a game Miss a match = miss the next match Late for practice (under 20 minutes) = the team will partake in a cardio/strength training exercise for every minute you are late and you will complete the same exercise and amount after practice Late for a practice (over 20 minutes) = missed practice Excused absences from a practice or game will be handled on an individual basis. On-time for practice = 10 minutes prior to the start of practice athletes have the necessary clothing and equipment on (including being taped), all equipment necessary for practice is prepared, set up, and organized. **If above is not completed to the expectation, the individual is considered late** On-time for matches = athletes are wearing team required travel gear, have all equipment prepared and organized, and be at the gym (home)/bus (away) 10 minutes prior to decided/departure time. **If above is not completed to the expectation, the individual is considered late and will sit out the first game of that night s match**
Practice Expectations No tank tops or cut-offs Spandex = full coverage No jewelry (bracelets of any kind) Hair must be pulled away from the face No cell phones No walking All balls picked up after drills No bouncing balls in transition Dress Code Lined up on Team line at start time Before each match the team and coaching staff will decide on the appropriate game-day clothing attire for school. Athletes will follow these expectations or not participate in the match. When traveling to and from matches, athletes will wear the agreed upon travel gear. All individuals will be wearing the same gear. Missing articles will result in a team consequence. Team travel gear must be worn by all. If an athlete does not have an article then the team will not be allowed to wear that item. Three Strike Policy During individuals four years in the volleyball program athletes will follow a Three Strike policy. The policy states that if an athlete is involved in a major rule infraction: 1. Before the athlete can return to practice or matches a meeting with the athlete s parent(s)/guardian(s), coaches, and the athlete will take place to discuss the disciplinary actions that will take place. Athlete will also apologize to the team. 2. Same procedure as above including a reflection letter to the coach (contents will be discussed with meeting from above) 3. Removal from the volleyball program Eligibility **Each occurrence will be handled fairly for the situation and in a timely manner** The goal of the program, team, and individual is to achieve self-satisfaction. To achieve this athletes will individually meet with coach(es) approximately once a week to help in monitoring their education. The program follows the IGHSAU and school eligibility rules. We must remember we are STUDENT- athletes. Leadership Council Teams and coaches will nominate two individuals in each grade level to serve on the Leadership Council. This concept replaces the team captain idea with one that has a united program mission. The Leadership Council will meet every Wednesday after practice for approximately fifteen minutes. During the meetings athletes will be able to celebrate successes and problem-solve solutions to concerns brought to the table. A coach will be present but will participate as more of a sounding board if needed.
Playing Time Playing time will be determined by work ethic, enthusiasm, cooperation, loyalty, reliability, and skill. Coaches have daily interactions with all athletes and observe the skills necessary to boost our teams to excel our program. Coaches will not discuss playing time of an athlete or another athlete with parents/guardians at anytime. Our goal is to provide a structure to help athletes reach their highest potential. Coaches have an open door policy when discussing how we as a coach/parent team can help the athlete reach self-satisfaction. Parent(s)/Guardian(s)/Fans In order to help our athletes grow in all areas of their lives we as coaches need your help. We ask that you try to remain positive at all times to foster a positive frame of mind in your daughter. There will be times when the athlete feels defeated. This is an opportunity for you to remind them of their inner strength and trust in their team to help them persevere. There will also be situations where you may have negative feelings towards a match or situation but I ask for your patience and trust in myself and the coaches. During these low times we must keep in mind that our program is built on the belief of building life-long skills via volleyball. During matches we want to continue to instill positive character in our athletes. Matches are performances. Please help us, at Northeast High School, welcome all opposing teams, fans, and officials so they can have a positive experience while in our presence. Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners Laurence Sterne **Please respect coaches and athletes after a match by keeping conversations dealing with controversial situations until the following day. This allows for time to self-reflect to determine if the topic is positive or negative in helping your daughter reach self-satisfaction.** Equipment Athletes are responsible for any issued equipment. If any piece of equipment is damaged or lost the athlete will be charged the cost of the item brand new and at the single item purchase price compared to the bulk discounted price given on large orders. Parents: The Northeast Rebel Athletic Boosters improve many aspects of our school, teams, and programs. Within your family means, we would welcome and appreciate any participation in this group. Bus Transportation The team will travel to and from matches and tournaments together unless signed out by a parent/guardian.
