FIRST INTERNATIONAL PADUA MEETING ON SEVERE BLEEDING MANAGEMENT PADUA 12 th November 2013 Aula Morgagni Policlinico Universitario Chief: Prof. Paolo Simioni Department of Cardiologic, Thoracic and Vascular Sciences, 2 nd Chair of Internal Medicine, Haemostasis and Thrombosis Unit University of Padua
Severe bleeding is a major cause of deaths that can potentially be prevented. The management of severe bleeding is still a matter of great debate. Several new approaches have been implemented in the last ten years partly supported by new technological resources which have become available as point-of-care techniques (POC) located closer to the patients. However, full validation of new protocols based on POC for management of severe bleeding is still unavailable even though accumulating evidence supports their utility in daily clinical practice. The First International Meeting held in Padua on the Management of Severe Bleeding will focus on these topics and outstanding speakers will try to make the point on several aspects of the management of severe bleeding. One of the highlights of the meeting will be a strongly interactive discussion with participants. The meeting will provide a special forum for physicians from many different specialties involved in the treatment of patients with severe bleeding (anesthesiology, trauma, cardiac and liver surgery, hematology, obstetrics and gynecology, intensive care, blood banking, pediatrics etc.) to exchange experiences and views as well as to promote collaborations. There is a real need to make the point on the use of POC, blood products, clotting factors concentrates, drugs for the management of severe bleeding. The very high level of the Faculty and the wide scope covered by the scientific program will ensure this aim is achieved. I wish you a pleasant stay in Padua and... enjoy the meeting!
