Good afternoon: We hope you've had a great week. There are many updates below. An Announcement About PowerSchool Email Updates... Please ignore any emails from PowerSchool regarding fees owed. Secretaries have not yet entered your payments into the system. Goal Setting Conferences Coming Soon! *** Our GMS Student Goal Setting Conferences will be held on October 9th and 10th. If you are in need of scheduling a conference with your child's homeroom teacher, please contact him/her next week to schedule a time. During our conference together, we will discuss your childs MAP and ISAT data points that will lead us to setting focused academic goals. This important collaboration will help direct your child to a great and successful school year. Your attendance and input is extremely important to the success of this process. If you have not returned your P.I.E. (Parent Information Exchange) form, please do so early next week. This information and your input will help us develop appropriate and achievable goals. We look forward to working with you to support your child. At conferences, you will also be handed two packets of papers. In past years, we have parent handouts at conferences and sometimes they are picked up and sometimes they are not. This year, your child's homeroom teacher will be handing you two packets of GMS information. One will contain information about what you can do as a parent to support your child's furthering education at home with activities and ideas to do as a family and the other will contain information about upcoming GMS activities. Please take time to read through both packets and see what is of interest to you. STEM Tech Literacy Class - Encore For all parents of students that are enrolled in the Tech. Literacy Encore Class. My class website is now LIVE! Please click on the link below to be taken to my website. On the Home Page, you will find a survey to send me your contact information. Please take a moment to do this so I have an accurate list for all of my classes. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at: kiddle.jennifer@d46.org

http://gmsstemtech.weebly.com Something for all of us to read and understand: In an ever changing world of social media, it is sometimes hard for parents and teachers to keep up. Here is a link shared by the media specialist at Frederick School, Lori Abrahams. I find the information very informational and helpful. http://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/11-sites-and-apps-kids-are-heading-to-afterfacebook?utm_source=092313_parent+default&utm_medium=email&utm_campaig n=weekly Our First GMS Friday Night Out is coming soon! The theme will be "Pink Out!" Wear Pink, and we will be raffling off items to raise money for Breast Cancer. We will sell raffle tickets for $0.25 or 5 for $1. Students will be able to see the raffle items next week before the dance. There will also be a donation area available for donations without participating in the raffle. This activity requires many volunteer opportunities. If interested in coming in to help out, please email Mrs. Harrison atharrison.cassidy@d46.org. We appreciate your help! 8th Grade Parents: The annual EXPLORE testing is coming soon. Eighth grade parents will receive a letter from your child's home high school very soon with more information. When we receive final information from our high schools, we'll send it out as well. The testing date is set for Saturday, October 26 with a makeup date of Saturday, November 2nd. If you have specific question about your child and this testing, please contact your child's high school. More GMS PTO Information: We are still in need of parents to volunteer to work our Fall 2013 Book Fair. Please use the following link to volunteer for a time slot (or two!): http://vols.pt/xtdbjv. The Book Fair will be held at GMS from Tuesday, October 8th through Thursday, October 10th. Our online Book Fair will run from September 26th through October 10th; remember to be on the lookout for the website link in the next few days!

Please remember to sign up to bring something for our Teacher Dinner to be held during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday evening, October 10th. All food/supplies needs to be brought to the GMS office no later than 4:00pm on October 10th. Non-perishable items may be brought in to the school office earlier in the week, if you'd prefer. Please use the following link to see what we need, and sign up for what you can provide for our meal:http://www.perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=zwcq0421. If you have any questions on either of the above topics, please send us an email at GMSPTONews@gmail.com. Also, you can find us on FaceBook for constantly updated information: https://www.facebook.com/#!/grayslakemiddleschoolpto. Our next PTO Board Meeting is on Wednesday, October 2nd in the GMS Teacher's Lounge at 6pm. Please feel free to join us! New ideas/opinions are always welcome. The GMS Math-a-thon is coming soon... This year GMS will sponsor the 9th annual St. Jude Math-a-thon. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to use their math knowledge to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. The children and families of St. Jude are in need of our help to further the research and treatment of childhood cancers. To date, GMS has helped raise over $50,000 in both personal and corporate match donations. To kick off our event this year, the GMS Music Department will host a bake sale at the conferences on October 9th and 10th. Please make sure to stop by the table to support this wonderful organization and treat your sweet tooth! If anyone is interested in donating baked goods, please contact our Math-a- Thon coordinator Mrs. Hodits at 847-543-5877 orhodits.stacey@d46.org.

Thank you in advance for supporting the students' efforts. Save The Date... The third annual GMS Red Ribbon Run will be held on October 25th. Much more information to come!
