0575 Flächenverklebung mit Guidelines for surface adhesion with Merbenit DB50 DB50
Before starting the adhesion process, all assembly parts have to be prepared accordingly. The surface treatment of the assembly parts depends on to their type and state, planned application and thereby occurring applied load as well as the type of the utilised adhesive. In the following the surface treatment of diverse material is described, if applied with Merbenit DB50. This applies to the deck s surfaces as well as to the rear side (adhesive surface) of pre-assembled deck plates. Pre-assembled deck plates adhered with Merbenit DB50. After the surface treatment it is necessary to protect the prepared adhesive surface against renewed contamination. If necessary, the surface must be cleaned again before the sealing / bonding. The surface should be well wettable and adhesable after the surface treatment. By surface treatment undefined coat are removed and the base material is available as adhesive surface. The long-term durability of the adhesion will be significantly improved by proper surface treatment. The following points must be considered and followed before adhering: n All contact points between Merbenit DB50 and non-system sealant / adhesive and particularly cured PU have to be avoided. n The parts to be adhered as well as the adhesive itself must be acclimated and must have the same temperature during the work process. n During the adhesion, the work area must be protected against insolation and rain. n The temperature during the work process and until the curing is completed must be between +5 C and +35 C. The application of Merbenit DB50 is done with a notched trowel (suitable toothing ca 5x5mm). The adhesive has to be applied equally on the substrate to achieve a constant film To accelerate the curing as well as for adhesion of large areas of two different non-permeable substrate it is recommended to spray it with water (ca 10g/m2). Merbenit DB50 has an open time of max. 60 minutes at 23 C/50%rf. When temperature is higher (as of 25 C) or if sprayed with water, the bonding must be done within 30 minutes.
After bonding the teak plank or the pre-assembled deck has to be fixed via appropriate method. The fixation can be done via screws, weights or by vacuum press moulding. The fixture must be held up until carrying capacity. The adhered parts applied without moistening with water are resilient after 24h. If before sprayed with water, the parts are resilient after 4-5h. Weight or screws used for fixation can be removed after 24 hours. 24h after adhesion the deck is walkable.
