Blood is made up of four main components: Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Protein-rich plasma helps carry out many important functions in the human body, including clotting blood, fighting diseases, and other important jobs. Plasma is a liquid substance that carries different blood components. It is made up of water and dissolved proteins including antibodies and clotting factors. Plasma s makeup is 95 percent water, which the human body can replenish quickly and easily. Blood plasma is collected through a process called plasmapheresis. A sterile needle is inserted in the donor s arm vein to draw blood. Blood is then cycled through special, sterile equipment that separates plasma from the other parts of blood. Finally, plasma is collected in a container, while other blood parts are safely returned to the donor s body. octapharmaplasma.com 2

Patients with bleeding disorders have blood clotting factors that are missing or don't work as they should. These abnormal clotting factors cause patients to bleed more and for a longer time than people with normal blood factor levels. Plasma therapies replace missing clotting factors and are able to effectively control or prevent acute bleeding in this group of patients. Bleeding disorder" is a general term for a wide range of medical problems that lead to poor blood clotting and continuous bleeding, including: Hemophilia A Hemophilia B von Willebrand disease (VWD) The immune system plays a key role in numerous conditions. In immune deficiencies, patients are prone to severe infections due to a lack of naturally occurring protective antibodies (immunoglobulins). Patients need replacements for their missing immunoglobulins in order to protect them against infections and ensure they lead healthy lives. Immunotherapy uses plasma to treat immune diseases and deficiencies by inducing, enhancing, or suppressing an immune response through immunomodulation or immunoglobulin replacement therapy. In addition to the lifesaving therapies used to treat rare diseases, plasma-based medicines are also used for critically ill or injured patients in intensive care and emergency settings. These can include burn, shock, trauma, major surgery, cancer treatments, organ transplants, cardiopulmonary issues, and more. octapharmaplasma.com 3

As soon as I learned how much plasma helps others, I knew I was going to donate as much as I could. -Shelby Donating fits around my full-time job, and is a way to make money while making a difference. -Amber Donating lets me contribute to my family s budget while still focusing on my children. Knowing real patients makes donating extremely meaningful for me. -Angie octapharmaplasma.com 4

Staff greet donors at front desk. New donors show valid ID, proof of Social Security #, and proof of residence. New donor video explains donation process and general education. Suitable donors begin donating, which takes approx. 45-90 minutes. Unsuitable donors deferred and given a date if/when they can return to donate. Health screening and mandatory medical questionnaire assure suitability to donate. Plasma samples tested at scientific lab for quality and safety. Donor compensated for donation time. Donor can return after 48 hours for 2nd (and final) weekly donation. octapharmaplasma.com 5

Potential new plasma donors receive a health screening, an in-depth medical questionnaire, and blood sample testing to ensure donor and patient safety. Qualified donors complete the donation process and are compensated for their time. Octapharma Plasma conducts extensive testing on each plasma sample to ensure only safe, quality plasma is used in the manufacture of medicines. A failed unit will be destroyed, and the donor will be permanently deferred (national registry). Octapharma develops and produces therapies to treat patients whose needs fall within our three therapeutic areas: Hematology, Immunotherapy, and Critical Care. Plasma donations make it possible for Octapharma to change and save the lives of millions of patients worldwide each year. octapharmaplasma.com 6

Octapharma Plasma donation centers hire locally, creating about 50 jobs per center. Employees are provided with valuable skills training, human resources support, and opportunities for promotion. Octapharma Plasma s life-saving donors are compensated for their time. Payments support financial well-being, increase household earnings, and create value for donors and their families. Retailers in our communities benefit when our donors and employees put their money back into the local economy and spend with area businesses. 80-85% of our payment spend is funneled back into the local economy. Octapharma Plasma partners with local Chambers of Commerce and other professional associations to better connect with businesses in communities we serve. We also support local and national healthcare and patient advocacy organizations that share our mission of improving the health and lives of patients worldwide. octapharmaplasma.com 7
