The cost remains $13.00. RSVP your attendance to Lion Jane if you haven t already done so. Our guest will be Dave Morgan who will share information about the Hand Washing Project in Africa. Our club will present a $500 check to Dave to support this worthwhile project. The progressive 50/50 is over $400. Someone will have a chance to find the Ace of Diamonds and take home the cash. 2012-2013 Lions/Lioness 11 E-2 Convention Quality Inn, West Branch April 26, 27, 28 There is still time to get your reservations in for the District 11 E-2 Convention which will be held later this month. If you need to take along a pet, you can make a reservation at the Super 8 Hotel which is right behind the Quality Inn. Rates are the same. Lion Wayne will have hotel and registration forms at our meeting on April 11 th. Make your reservations. The Oscoda Lions Club is one of the three host clubs. It would be nice to have a good showing of our members. Advance ticket sales for the District 11 E-2 Raffle will be available at the April 11 th meeting. Tickets are $5.00 each or three for $10.00. There will be some great prizes again this year. The raffle raises money to support the convention so there is no fee to register. The raffle is open to Lion and Lioness members only. Sight and Hearing Sweepstakes Update Thanks go to Lions Gary Rehberg, Bob Visser, Bud Rick, Brenda Lahti, Carole Schultz and Craig Clarke who braved the cold at Family Fare to sell Lions of Michigan Foundation tickets and Lion Mints. As usual our community was very generous and we were able to sell 105 tickets over the two days as well as 163 rolls of mints. Twenty of the tickets were from direct donations. Our next two day sale is at Neiman s in Tawas on April 12 and 13. The Neiman s sign up is complete. We will be back at Family Fare on April 19 and 20. There will be a worker signup sheet for Family Fare at the club meeting on Thursday. So far we have sold $3,600 in sweepstakes tickets. We should be able to reach $5,000 to $6,000 by the time we finish. Remember that half of what we sell comes back as a grant to our club. The drawing will take place at our convention in West Branch. Ticket stubs and money need to be turned in to Lion Wayne by April 20 th. Special Lion Thoughts Lion Florence and Lion Al continue to make improvement after surgery and other health issues. Lion Newana will be having shoulder surgery on April 12 th. Lion Tony s daughter, Molly, is doing well since her surgery and will return to school this week. Board Business
Communications: Jennifer Bolen of St. Joseph Health System sent a thank you for inviting her to speak at our meeting. Quota Club of Iosco County sent an invitation to attend their Gourmet Delight fundraiser on May 5 th at the East Tawas Community Center. There is a charge to attend. Oscoda Area Schools will present our club with a Hand and Hand Award on Monday, April 7 th at the school board meeting at 7 p.m. Lion Chuck will attend to accept the award. The school board annually recognizes individuals and groups who have made a positive impact on the schools. All Lions are welcome to attend the meeting. Be sure to welcome our newest members Lions Dave Brick and Connie Heinrich. From the Humanitarian Fund: The board approved $196 to pay for medical bills for an Oscoda resident who is an amputee. The board approved $500 for an Oscoda woman who is undergoing cancer treatment following surgery at U of M. The funds will help with transportation and housing costs while she is in Ann Arbor. The board approved $250 to purchase textbooks for the Reading Action Program. As part of the Youth Exchange District Project, East Jordan students will be delivering the textbooks to students in Peru this summer. Lion Gary reported that our annual Paul Bunyan Raffle is being organized. This year s winners will receive cash prizes. The Paul Bunyan Festival will be held on September 21 and 22 at Furtaw Field. From the Administrative Account: The board approved: $54 to refurbish the Lion sign at the triangle south of town. $25 for an advertisement in the Quota Club brochure. $100 for an advertisement in the AuSable River Canoe Marathon booklet. 6 th annual Pancake Breakfast. About 100 people enjoyed our pancakes and we raised $640. Thanks go to the many Lions who set up, mixed the batter, flipped the cakes, served, washed dishes and cleaned up afterward. Texas Hold Em Poker. The three day poker tourney added $1,388 to our activities account. The next Executive Board Meeting will be May 2 nd at 7:00 at Lion Chuck s home.
