Click on images to enlarge. 2014-2015 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Coverage As of 20 NOV 2014 81% DOD 87% Army Active Duty 76% Army Guard 62% Army Reserve U.S. Army Influenza Activity Report Week Ending 15 November 2014 (Week 46) SYNOPSIS: Overall activity remains low in both Army and civilian populations, but is expected to increase over the coming weeks. ILI Activity: Army incident ILI outpatient visits in week 46 were 24% lower than for the same week last year. Influenza cases: No hospitalized influenza cases were reported to USAPHC through DRSi in week 46. To date, no cases have been reported during this influenza season. Viral specimens: During week 46, 92 of 582 (16%) laboratory specimens tested positive for respiratory pathogens; 30 of 465 (6.5%) specimens tested for influenza A were positive. SRMC reported the most influenza A-positive specimens (60%), followed by WRMC (27%), NRMC (10%), and PRMC (3%). RSV accounted for 48% of positive specimens. Geographic Spread ILI Activity United States United States In week 46, Puerto Rico and five states reported regional activity. Fortyfour states and the District of Columbia reported local and sporadic activity. No influenza activity was reported in Rhode Island. Guam did not report. World Health Organization Influenza activity remains low in most regions, although high activity was noted in American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Nationwide during week 46, 1.6% of outpatient visits reported in ILINet were due to ILI, which is below the national baseline of 2.0%. The percentage of ILI outpatient visits ranged from 0.8% to 2.3% across the regions reporting. ILI Activity Army During week 46, incident ILI activity was 24% lower than the same time last year and 44% lower than week 46 in 2012-2013. AD SMs accounted for 25% of incident ILI clinic visits during week 46; in 2013-2014, AD SMs comprised 26% of ILI clinic visits on average during week 46. Laboratory Respiratory Specimen Testing 16% (92) of specimens tested positive during week 46. Influenza A accounted for 33% of positive specimens. RSV accounted for 48% of positive specimens, parainfluenza for 12%, adenovirus for 5%, and influenza B for 2%. No specimens tested positive for enterovirus. Laboratory Testing for Influenza A In week 46, 30 of 465 (6.5%) specimens tested for influenza A were positive. This was a decrease from week 45 (9.5%). 23 (77%) of the positive influenza A specimens were from non-ad personnel. SRMC reported 18 (60%) of the total influenza A specimens. WRMC reported 8 (27%) positive influenza A specimens, NRMC reported 3 (10%), and PRMC reported 1 (3%). ERMC and CENTCOM reported no influenza A-positive specimens for week 46. DRSi Influenza Case Reporting In week 46, no cases of influenzaassociated hospitalization were reported in DRSi. No Army influenza cases have been reported for the 2014-2015 influenza season in DRSi. At the same time last influenza season, five hospitalized influenza cases were reported.
