Why parents matter 7 million teens and young adults need treatment, and most of them don t get it. PARENTS are the #1 influence in their child s life When PARENTS are involved and empowered with resources, there are better outcomes for the child struggling with addiction PARENTS are their child s most important advocate, and can guide their child to get the help they need 4 "Millions of families facing the frightening challenges deserve more. So many lives could be saved and so many parents should have better information and support to help their children thrive. Tom Hedrick, Partnership for Drug-Free Kids Founder
Programs and Support We empower parents and families with critical information and support. Through our national Helpline -- which can be accessed by phone (1-855-DRUG-FREE), online live chat, email, text or Facebook Messenger -- the Partnership provides vital, direct support to families. We connect parents in crisis to other parents who have been there and can provide critical guidance. We provide skill-building and assist with early intervention strategies through coaching, webinars, and online resources that utilize evidence-based concepts such as community reinforcement and family training (CRAFT) and motivational interviewing 5

A Caller to the Partnership s Helpline I can t control my anger toward my 19-year-old son and now he blames me for wanting to use more. I know that s not true. Same story he stole jewelry, checks, used my credit card to buy debit cards at the gas station. We wouldn t let him go back to college this semester. I m vicious toward him I know I have to stop but my anger is out of control. I know I should remove myself from the situation, but I can t because I want to prevent him from dying. My husband says we should leave him be that I should be patient. When my friends, who have no idea about what s going on with my son, brag about how their kids are doing in school and sports, I smile and die inside, screaming internally, My son s a heroin addict. Please help me.
