Horton Street Seniors Centre Program Brochure for September 2017 to June 2018 Welcome! The Horton Street Seniors Centre is a recreation facility for adults 55 years and older located inside the Boys & Girls Club of London. Yearly memberships can be purchased from our information booth. As a member, you can participate in our daily activities, use our door to door transportation service, swim in our two pools, stay fit using our fully equipped fitness room and receive discounts on day trips and special events. Additional fees may be applied for specific programs/workshops. Fees & Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Closed Saturday & Sunday * Modified hours on statutory holidays and for July and August. Membership: Starts at $75/year and is based on household income (see Membership Application). Parking Pass: $30 per calendar year (January - December) or $3 per month, must display pass. Visitors Fee: $3 per day - Activity programs & afternoon open swim only, includes parking. Activity Pass: $35 per year - Excludes all pool programs & fitness room. Allows access to one regular program per week and it must be the same program each week. Fitness at Horton Street Seniors Centre Walking Program Our independent walking program runs every morning Monday- Thursday at 8:00 am-8:45 am in the gym. It is a great opportunity to meet new people, socialize all while getting in a good walk at your own pace. This program will be run by a volunteer/student. A warm-up & cool-down can be done at own discretion Get Fit Group Exercise (Fit For Life) Get Fit is a 45 minute aerobic and strengthening group exercise class held 4 times a week in the gym. We do standing aerobics and then balance and strengthening with a chair Monday- 10:45 am in the (Fit For Life)Tuesday- 9:00 am in the Thursday- 9:45 am in the Friday- 9:15 am (The Friday Get Fit class will be cancelled on our larger Special Events) Gentle/ Seated Exercise Our Gentle/Seated Exercise class is a half hour seated class meant for individuals who want a slower paced and gentle exercise class. We sit in a circle and complete a lot of functional movements as well as core and muscle strengthening through the use of body weight, resistance bands and balls (Included in membership cost) Monday-12:00 pm in the Thursday- 11:15 am in the Music Room Stretch & Strength Stretch & strength is a 30 minute class that utilizes both seated and standing exercises with the use of body weight and resistance bands. This class really focuses on strengthening as well as balance components for the entire body. Wednesday- 12:45 in the Zumba Gold Zumba Gold is a mix of choreographed dance routines that are fun and low-impact step patterns that will have you breaking a sweat. With the energizing Latin- International music mix- it s the most fun workout you ll do! *This class is an additional cost, sign up at Info Booth Tai Chi Tai Chi is an ancient mixed martial art form that is now considered to be a form of meditation. All the movements and sequences are performed slowly & softly with smooth transitions. There are many benefits to Tai Chi, some of the ones being improved balance, flexibility and relaxation. We offer both a beginner and intermediate class Tuesday: 9:00 am-9:45 am in the (Beginner) Thursday: 9:00-9:45 am in the (Intermediate) Yoga Yoga is a great way to gain strength, flexibility, balance and many other benefits. It is performed slowly with smooth transitions that allow you to really stretch and strengthen all areas of the body. It is mainly a seated class but other individuals may wish to stand. All levels welcome! Tuesday- 12:30 pm-1:30 pm in the *This class is an additional cost, sign up at Info Booth Hula Hoop It s not just for kids anymore-hula hooping is a fun and great core workout for everybody. Our instructor will teach you step by step how to do it safely all while enjoying a laugh & great music!*this class is an additional cost Line Dancing Line dancing is offered once a week and instructed by one of our members. It s a large group that love to have new people come in and learn the routines! Monday: 9:30-10:30 am in the gym *There is a $2.00 drop in fee for the class Water Aerobics Water aerobics are an additional cost & run by sessions that are approximately 14-16 weeks in length. Drops-ins are also available for $2.00 per class *See pages 4 & 5 Aqua Fit A multilevel water-based aerobics class that utilizes strength & cardiovascular conditioning through a variety of movements and resistance in the pool. Gentle Fit Gentle Fit is a low impact waterbased workout that uses basic step patterns to encourage range of motion and gentle resistance through the water. Aqua-Zumba Integrating the Zumba formula & philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe & challenging water-based workout.

Morning times are reserved for H.S.S.C. members only. Transportation Return trips are available from your home to the Centre for a cost of $3.00 each way. Prepaid trip tickets can be purchased in strips of 10 for $27.00. Call 519-434-9119 to book. All bookings are made on a first come, first serve basis. Must be a current member to access this service. Schedule is available online at www.bgclondon.ca or visit our transit booth on the first floor. Café Come visit H.S.S.C. s very own Café! Enjoy a coffee, chat with friends, and make some new ones. Our friendly staff and volunteers will welcome you with a smile. Open from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., we offer breakfast and lunch at a reasonable price. Whether you crave our homemade soups, baked goods or our daily specials, we know we have something to tempt you. Stop by and see us, chat with the chef, and peruse our delicious offerings. Fitness Room Our fully equipped and recently redone Fitness Room is included in the HSSC membership cost. We have equipment for individuals of every ability and fitness level available. A certified Personal Trainer (Emily) and trained volunteers are always available in the room to help answer your questions. An orientation must be completed before gaining access to the Fitness Room, where a workout program will be developed to fit your needs and goals and to ensure you re confident in using the equipment safely.
