Summer 2018

Welcome to the 2018-2019 term! As summer close to a close, we are excited and hopeful about everything the 2018-2019 year holds. Planning is already underway for a year full of incredible activities! Before we move forward, however, we want to take a moment to celebrate all that we accomplished last year. First, thank you to all who served on the 2017-2018 Board of Directors. This all-volunteer board is filled with those who are passionate about NOSC s mission, and there are still a few position open for this year if anyone else would like to join this dynamic group (email president@noscdc.com to volunteer). We would not have accomplished all that we did without the dedication and leadership of our former president, Kate Cardone. You ll hear from her later. Taking over at the help is Maria Melvin. She is a lovely and talented individual who has been working all summer to build upon our already stellar foundation. Next, we are thrilled to announce that we were able to donate $60 thousand dollars in scholarships and to charities during last May s Spring Event, our biggest fundraiser of the year. Read on to learn more about our scholarship recipients, and stay tuned for opportunities to get involved! Finally, make sure you register your email with your online member account, as well as follow along with the Members Only Facebook Group so you don t miss an update about all of our tours, events, Neighborhood Groups, Activity Clubs, and other announcements. Here s to another successful year!

Fair winds, Kate! As my time as President of NOSC comes to a close I have thought often of our dual mission of social support and philanthropy. It has been wonderful to see that mission in action over the past two years. I am thankful for the network of support I have gained through NOSC and am hopeful that, as our Navy adventure continues, our paths will cross again soon. Beyond our mission of social support, NOSC is focused on serving our community. Our charitable grants and scholarships, a total of $60,000 this year, are making a difference in our community by funding programs at local nonprofit organizations serving the military community, and by supporting future leaders on their educational journeys through educational scholarships. Thank you to everyone who contributed to NOSC during the past two years. The list is long and our group would not have thrived without the time and talent of many wonderful members. We were fortunate to have the leadership of dedicated volunteers who served as board members, advisors, leaders of neighborhood groups and clubs, committee members, and volunteers at Temptations Gift Boutique. I hope that the tours, events, neighborhood groups, and club gatherings have enriched your time in Washington, DC. Please spread the word and invite friends to join NOSC and explore all the club has to offer. If you have enjoyed your time as a NOSC member, please consider exploring opportunities to give back. There are numerous volunteer roles, large and small, that make the club run every day. Grab a board member and ask them how to get involved! Or email our new President, Maria Melvin, at president@noscdc.com. Thank you for a wonderful two years. I wish you all fair winds and following seas until our paths cross again.
