SANDESTIN WINE FESTIVAL RESPONSIBLE VENDOR OUTLINE Florida Beverage Laws The type of alcoholic beverage license that Sandestin has is a special resort license. This allows us to serve beer, wine and liquor by the drink for consumption on premise (on the grounds) or by the sealed package to go (sealed by the manufacturer). It covers our entire resort on both sides. The agency that issues this license is the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (From now on, we ll refer to them as the Division.)

The Division has agents, like the Sheriff s Department, that enforce the beverage laws. They, as well as police officers, can inspect us at any time without warrant and routinely conduct undercover investigation operations to ensure that we are complying with the law. One common undercover investigation is underage purchase operations. The Division sends out operatives aged 19 and younger. The underage operatives, under the supervision of agents, attempt to purchase alcohol from beverage retailers. If they are successful, the person who sold or served the alcohol is criminally charged. Underage operatives: Cannot lie to you. Cannot use fake, borrowed or altered identification. Must use their real ID. The purpose of these operations is not to trick you into selling to an underage person. It is to determine if you are complying with the law.

Legal Age and Checking ID s The legal age for our customers to posses, consume or purchase alcohol is 21. There are no exceptions. It is the policy of Sandestin that you will request identification from any person who appears to be under the age of 30.

The only acceptable forms of identification are: Driver s licenses State-issued identification cards Military ID s Passports All identification must contain: A picture that looks like your customer A date of birth on or before today s date 1993 An expiration date that has not expired All ID s must be checked using a diligent effort: Hold the identification in your hand Make sure it is an acceptable form of ID Check to see if picture resembles customer Check date of birth to determine if at least 21 Check expiration date to determine if it is valid If you use a diligent effort, you have a defense for selling to an underage person if they use a fake, borrowed or altered identification against you.

Methods of recognizing and dealing with underage customers 1. Selling or serving alcohol to someone under 21 is illegal. You can be fined up to $500 and be sentenced up to 60 days in jail. If you are convicted, you cannot bartend or manage for five years. 2. Any customer who appears under the age of 30 or has a youthful appearance should have their identification diligently checked before being sold or served alcohol. 3. Carefully compare the photograph with the customer. Be prepared to ask them to sign their name so you can compare their signature with the one on the ID. 4. Look closely at the date of birth to detect any alterations. 5. Don t be afraid to ask questions such as age and date of birth. 6. Identification checking guides are available to compare out-ofarea ID s that you may be unfamiliar with. 7. If you are unsure as to the validity of an ID, you do not have to serve or sell alcohol to the customer. 8. Be on the lookout for underage drinkers who have been given drinks purchased by others. 9. Be on the lookout for underage drinkers who attempt to acquire alcohol by using someone else s wine glass to fool you into thinking they have already been carded. 10. If you suspect someone is under age and they are in possession of alcohol, ask for identification. If they cannot provide an acceptable form of identification, remove the alcoholic beverage and notify management immediately. 11. Underage drinking will not be tolerated at Sandestin. Underage persons in possession of, or attempting to possess, alcohol will be immediately ejected and the proper authorities will be notified.

Wine Festival Volunteer Rules and Guidelines 1. One armband per customer. We do not give out multiple armbands to one person. 2. Place armbands on the right wrist of the guest. 3. If the guest appears to be under the age of 30, we will diligently check the guest s identification to be sure they are at least 21 years old before we put an armband on them. 4. Acceptable forms of identification are driver s licenses, state-issued ID cards, military ID s and passports. All acceptable identification must contain a picture, a date of birth, and an expiration date that has yet to expire. 5. ID Checking guides will be available for you to use. Use them if the ID you are checking is unfamiliar to you. 6. Those who are serving wine at the festival put great trust into those volunteers who are checking to make sure guests are of legal drinking age. Please diligently check the identification of all guests who appear under the age of 30. The financial livelihood and careers of those serving the wine are at stake. 7. If your job is to sell wine in the wine tent, request identification from any customer who appears to be under the age of 30- even if they have an armband. Selling to a minor can net you a $500 fine and 60 days in jail. 8. Be aware of your surroundings. If you notice someone who appears to be under the age of 30 in possession of alcohol, card that person immediately. If they do not have an acceptable identification that states their age as 21 or over, remove the alcohol and notify someone immediately. 9. A representative from Beverage Law Professionals will be on hand throughout the event to consult with us on identification and beverage law issues. If you are unable to locate that person, you can reach them directly by calling 259-3541. 10. If you witness a guest who is acting intoxicated and is attempting to drive, offer the guest alternate transportation. Sandestin will provide alternate transportation to those who need it.
