1 CDC NHM&E Data Variable Set () Updates The primary purpose of this document is to summarize the changes in the updated NHM&E (version date: 17-Mar-14-corrected) compared with the last version of the (Comprehensive NHM&E, version date: 16-Apr-13). All questions regarding the NHM&E must go to the NHM&E Service Center at or NHM&E Service Center Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm ET. Types of s The current NHM&E includes all data elements collected by PEB as required by program announcements , , Categories A, B or C, Categories A or B, , and the MSM Testing Initiative. PEB decided to create one NHM&E because many data elements are shared between grantee activities of counseling and testing (), partner services () and risk reduction activities (). However, not all tables and data elements in the NHM&E will apply to all grantees. This updated includes: Modifications and revisions to required data elements: Additional value codes were added to the program announcement/program strategy data element, business rules for the individual risk behavior data elements were modified for clarity and accuracy such that grantees can more easily identify when those data elements are required, and a revised housing status data element was added. Modification to Non-Testing/Non-Partner Services data name: All references to Non-Testing/Non-Partner Services data were updated to Risk Reduction Activities. This update applies to both health department and CDC directly-funded CBO data elements that contained Non-Testing/Non-Partner Services in the text of business rules, instructions, or definitions. Revised business rules a. The business rule of allowed but not required was changed to allowed but not reported to CDC for all data elements to which it applied; b. For Health Department Aggregate data elements: All health department aggregate data elements listed in Table ME are either mandatory (program delivery year and program delivery period) or required (all other data elements). Previously, many data elements were allowed but not required. This requirement only applies to HD grantees who conduct the interventions. For example, if you conduct PrEP, you are required to report the data, otherwise the requirement doesn t apply to you. c. For CDC directly-funded CBO client-level and aggregate data elements: the business rule was updated to include program announcement options for Category A (X137=8), Category B (X137=9), and (X137=11). NHM&E Updates Page 1
2 In the table below a. MODIFIED indicates length of allowable text or value codes were changed; b. indicates definitions and/or business rules were changed, and i. Underlined text in revised business rules indicates the change ii. Crossed out text in revised business rules indicates deleted rules c. ADDED indicates the data element is entirely new.
