1 Recent HIV infections- GMHS new diagnoses of HIV at Gay Men s Health in (37%) were infected within 12 months prior to diagnosis Median age 32 years (range years) Country of birth 11 born in Ireland, 7 born abroad 63% of recent infections were asymptomatic Importance of HIV testing when high risk event has occurred. 16% were symptomatic 68% had recent unprotected anal intercourse 47% had an STI co-infection at time of HIV diagnosis Chlamydia, Gonorrohoea, non specific urethritis and syphilis Dr Joanne Moran HPSC NVRL HIV p24 positive cases - GMHS % (n=6) of new diagnoses at GMHS in 2012 tested positive for HIV p24 antigen Indicative of very early sero-conversion (between 10 and 14 days prior to positive test). Median age: 30 years (age range years) Country of birth: 2 born in Ireland, 4 born abroad 50% of p24 positive cases also had an STI at the time of HIV diagnosis All reported recent sexual activity Four reported unprotected anal intercourse Dr Joanne Moran HPSC NVRL
