2 How we can help you PRACTICE A PATIENT-CENTRED APPROACH: Founded in 1844 and incorporated by Parliament in 1950 the Faculty of Homeopathy supports statutorily regulated healthcare professionals with their homeopathic practice. We are the only homeopathic organisation to be recognised by professional bodies such as the General Medical Council (GMC) and we have nine accredited teaching centres, including four overseas. This stamp of approval provides the general public with the guarantee that our members are registered, fully qualified professionals, integrating homeopathy with conventional medicine. 175 years rich heritage The Faculty of Homeopathy has a long history of supporting medical professionals with their homeopathic practice. The Faculty s roots go back to its founding in 1844 and, since an Act of Parliament in 1950, the Faculty has been recognised as the registering body for statutorily regulated healthcare professionals who integrate homeopathy into their practice. Over the years, the Faculty has grown considerably and expanded to become a truly multidisciplinary organisation, embracing a wide range of regulated healthcare professionals. In 2013, the General Medical Council (GMC) recognised the Faculty as an official designated body for the revalidation of doctors. The Faculty of Homeopathy has always worked closely with the British Homeopathic Association. info@ Treating patients using homeopathy takes the whole patient into account and provides a truly holistic healthcare service for each individual. It can also offer a credible alternative to the steep rise in the over-prescription of conventional drugs. MEET GROWING DEMAND: Homeopathy has never been so popular; currently 15% of UK citizens (approximately 9 million people) use homeopathy1 and the over-the-counter (OTC) market in homeopathy stands at around 40million 2. In recent years there has been a 60% growth in homeopathy in Europe 3 and in the United States the market for herbal remedies reached $6.4 billion in 2012, having grown 16% in five years 4. GIVE A GUARANTEE: Some of our eminent members include: Dr Peter Fisher, MA MB BChir FRCP FFHom, is a member of the WHO expert panel on Traditional and Complementary Medicine, Director of Research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM), Editor of the Faculty s journal, Homeopathy, and is a Physician to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Faculty of Homeopathy is for statutorily regulated healthcare professionals. As a member of the Faculty you provide the general public with the reassurance that you are a fully qualified medical professional, adhering to our Code of Ethics and undertaking regular training. EXPAND AND DIVERSIFY: If you re looking to change your approach to how you deliver patient care, homeopathy training could provide you with an entirely new way of looking at patient health, which many Faculty members say has made them better practitioners. Sir John Weir, GCVO MB ChB FFHom was Physician Royal for 50 years, serving several twentieth century monarchs, including King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI and the present Queen Elizabeth II. He was also President of the Faculty of Homeopathy and a Consultant Physician at the former Royal London Homeopathic Hospital. PROMOTE YOUR PRACTICE: Dr Margery Blackie, CVO MD FFHom was a Consultant Physician at the former Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and was also a Homeopathic Physician to Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. She was a Dean of the Faculty and rose to become the first female President in In 1971 she founded the Blackie Foundation Trust to financially support research into homeopathy and provide grants to doctors studying homeopathy. As a member of the Faculty you will have access to training and continued professional development (CPD) in addition to seminars, conferences and our regular newsletter Simile ensuring you are up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. Members of the Faculty who are LFHom level and above can include their practice in the British Homeopathic Association (BHA) practitioner directory. The BHA website is used by the general public who are interested in homeopathy and receives up to 180,000 hits a month 5. 3 What our members say WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY? Homeopathy: HOME TRUTHS Dr Helen Beaumont MBChB MRCGP DRCOG FFHom, President of the Faculty of Homeopathy Homeopathy has completely rejuvenated my love of medicine. I have rediscovered my original motivations for becoming a Doctor. I had become disillusioned as a result of increased workloads, pressures to reduce consultation times, and a culture of overprescribing. Building upon my formal medical training and experience, homeopathy has helped me to practise with more compassion, improve my consulting skills and there s no doubt that I m now able to treat my patients in a holistic way. I have not made the decision to practise homeopathy instead of conventional medicine I have added homeopathy to the range of treatments I can offer my patients. I now have a private practice where I see a lot of patients with chronic diseases, who are currently taking, or have tried, conventional medicines but without success. Offering a homeopathic approach to these patients has not only given them alternative choices, but it has vastly improved the quality of their lives. Being part of the Faculty of Homeopathy offers accreditation, support, training and CPD opportunities to all statutorily regulated healthcare professionals who want to add homeopathy to their range of skills. HOMEOPATHY HEADLINES I ve been studying and practising homeopathy for 20 years, since I was a young GP. It was inspiring to me how, in addition to my medical knowledge, how much homeopathy contributed to my work as a GP. I see it as a complement to general practice. Dr Julie Geraghty MBChB FFHom DCH Scientific curiosity first led me to enrol on a course with the Faculty of Homeopathy. I was astounded and impressed by the discovery of a way to deliver healthcare which embraces both the art and science of medicine, working with the body, rather than against it, and delivering consistently high clinical outcomes. I now integrate homeopathic medicine alongside my conventional practise, both within the NHS and in the private sector. I have found a way to practise medicine which is highly satisfying both to patient and doctor alike and I would heartily recommend a career in homeopathy. Dr Gary Smyth MB ChB DMH DRCOG DFSRH MRCGP MFHom I have twenty years experience as a fully qualified medical doctor registered with the General Medical Council and I started a private practice in homeopathy several years ago. I have seen great success both with acute disease as well as with chronic disease, which I find very rewarding. Dr Christine Suppelt MD FRCS MFHom I came across homeopathy 12 years after I had qualified, when I returned to UK after working in Australia. I was looking for change and to practise in a way that was gentler and more holistic. I attended a homeopathy lecture given by two members of the Faculty and then tried it myself and found it worked. I ve spent the last twenty years in referral work in addition to teaching homeopathy to vets in the UK and around the world. Mr Peter Gregory BVSc VetFFHom MRCVS I offer both conventional and homeopathic podiatry as part of my practice. Depending on each individual patient s need, I look at all the possible remedies and offer what I feel is best for the patient and their wellbeing. In particular I ve seen success with homeopathic treatments for verrucas, which is a very common condition that many of my patients old and young suffer with. Dr Tariq Khan PhD BSc (Hons) FCPM FFPM RCPS(Glasgow) FFHom(Pod) MChS As a qualified pharmacist, I ve always been curious about medicine - both conventional and natural - and how it can support the body with its own healing process. In my experience, when homeopathy is used appropriately, it gives patients another safe and effective treatment option. I ve also found that there is an increasingly informed public who have access to a lot of information about drugs and their side effects and they expect pharmacists to answer their questions and provide impartial advice about all available medicines.
