1 Patient Guide This information is for patients prescribed Sereflo TM inhaler Sereflo TM is used to help treat or prevent symptoms of asthma and is indicated for use in adults with asthma 18 years of age and older only.

2 Sereflo TM is a combination of two medicines: salmeterol and fluticasone propionate. If you have previously been prescribed Seretide Evohaler metered dose inhaler, please be aware that: Sereflo TM is therapeutically equivalent to Seretide Evohaler Sereflo TM is available in 25/125mcg and 25/250mcg presentations Sereflo TM inhalers contain 120 doses Sereflo TM includes a built-in dose counter on the front of the inhaler (reorder at 20 remaining) Sereflo TM contains two medicines, salmeterol and fluticasone propionate. Salmeterol is the reliever medicine. It is a longacting bronchodilator, and helps to keep the airways in the lungs open. This makes it easier for air to pass freely to, and from, the lungs. The effects of salmeterol last for at least 12 hours. Fluticasone is the preventer medicine. It is a corticosteroid that reduces swelling, inflammation and irritation in the lungs. Frequently Asked Questions What is Sereflo TM? Sereflo TM is a salmeterol/fluticasone pressurised metered dose inhaler (pmdi). It is used to treat symptoms of moderate to severe asthma. Is Sereflo TM the same as the inhaler that I was prescribed last time? Sereflo TM is therapeutically equivalent to Seretide Evohaler metered dose inhaler at equivalent strengths. How do I use my Sereflo TM inhaler? Please refer to the How to Use instructions and images opposite, or refer to the relevant page on the Sereflo TM website. Is Sereflo TM suitable for use in children?? Sereflo TM is indicated for use in adults 18 years of age and over only. Sereflo TM is not suitable for use in children. Do not share your inhaler with any one else.

3 How to use Sereflo TM 1. Only use your inhaler when standing or sitting up. 2. Remove the mouthpiece cover. Is the mouthpiece clean and free of loose objects? 3. Shake the inhaler to ensure that the contents are evenly mixed. 4. Place your thumb on the base of the inhaler, below the mouthpiece, and hold with your forefinger on top on the canister. Exhale as far as is comfortable. 5. Hold the mouthpiece between your teeth, with as little pressure as possible. Use your lips to form a tight seal. 6. Inhale slowly and deeply through your mouth. Just after you begin to inhale, press down firmly on the top of the canister. This will release a dose of medicine. Continue to inhale steadily and deeply. 7. Hold your breath for a few seconds after removing the inhaler from your mouth. Wait 30 seconds, and then repeat steps Replace the mouthpiece cover. 9. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to avoid becoming hoarse.

4 Dose Counter On the front of your Sereflo TM inhaler, there is a counter to help you keep track of the amount of medicine left in the canister. The inhaler contains 120 doses. As you use the inhaler, the number on the front will fall from 120 to 0. You should request a replacement inhaler when you get to 20 doses remaining. When the dose counter displays 0, stop using the inhaler. This is because any medicine left in the canister may not be a full dose. 5 Learning to Manage your Asthma While there is no known cure for asthma, there are well-established methods of managing the disease. Because asthma is a long-term condition, managing it well means establishing a routine. We understand that asthma doesn t just affect your health physically; the threat of an asthma attack can impact decisions about travel, exercise and the myriad other facets of daily life. Exercise and Nutrition Although exercise is obviously conducive to health and general well-being, it can also be an asthma trigger. With efficient asthma control and management, however, regular exercise is possible. Exercise can help improve: Lung and heart efficiency Muscle strength Endurance Posture Efficiency of muscular recovery We recommend the following for exercising with asthma: Start slowly Ensure that you warm up before any physical exercise Finish with a gentle succession of warm-down exercises Build up movement over time Be patient Exercise in a ventilated area Avoid areas of high pollution, or with high pollen count Seek advice from your GP coupled with regular exercise, a balanced diet is essential to general health and well-being Daily Life and Asthma Avoid areas of high pollution, or with high pollen count Avoid tobacco smoke at all times Ensure your home is cleaned regularly, removing dust and allergens Limit exposure to pets where possible Follow the advice of your doctor
