1 Cancer Registry Cases in Tikrit Teaching Hospital for The Last Ten Years () Cancer Registry Cases in Tikrit Teaching Hospital for The Last Ten Years ( ) Zina N. Adu Alrahman, Dept. of Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Tikrit Abstract Cancer is the second most common cause of death after cardiovascular diseases.epidemiology can help us understanding the cause of cancer by examining patterns of by distribution of cases by age, sex, other illness, social class & so on. The present study was undertake to know the effect & records of cancer registry center in Tikrit Teaching Hospital. It was found that the most of cases (.) were males.regarding age group the study shows that (.) were above years old, although (.) were less than years old The majority of patients (.) with blood cancer for both genders.unfortunately there is no lymphatic system cancer cases records for female gender. Our study recommends the improvement in the records of cancer at statistic unite in Tikrit Teaching Hospital. Introduction Cancer is the most horrible word threatens life of thousands, million people in the world. the cancer registration scheme is a big job, it needs hard efforts, cooperation & follow up to reach useful information regarding identify the most common cancer in that area & supply annul information in order to put the appropriate policy to reduce the cancer incidence in specific city by Detecting the possible etiology (). Cancer registry center have been established for long period as an article to understand the nature of cancer from different aspects ;etiology, epidemiology, geographical distribution & treatments in all the worlds, even in our country there is Iraqi Cancer Registry Center (ICRC) (,). The collaborations between the cancer societies & cancer research center & net work of cancer registries in the country will lead to clear understanding of frequency of each cancer,as in Britain the geographical variations in the incidence of colorectal cancer have been studied in nine towns (). This study aimed to know the magnitude of the problem mainly in the province of Salahaddin where Tikrit Teaching Hospital the only one. Patients and Methods A retrospective study was conducted on cancer patient records from, those who diagnosed & registered in department of statistic at T.T.H..The cancer cases were diagnosed & confirmed as tumor by histopathological study {macro, microscopically examination}. Information on patient from the records were collected including: age, gender, organs effected with cancer annually during study period ( ). Results A retrospective review on cancer patient records in T.T.H. from to of male cases records (.) & female (.) were studied. The distribution of cancer cases according to age groups for previous ten years ago showed that the rate of cancer cases appeared to be the most frequent in the age group years old were (.) &least frequent in the age group years old were (.). Furthermore, (.) was the rate f cancer cases among the age group > years old. Unfortunately, the frequency of cancer occurrence were (.)among age group < years. (TABLE ) Tikrit Medical Journal ; ():

Male cases were (.)at increased gradually till became (.). Female gender started (.) at then declined till became (.)) ®ain increased till reached (.).Occasionally both vicinity of study period showed highest frequency rate of cancer cases.(table ) The systemic classification of cancer case according to organ involved, the present status are: Gastrointestinal tract have highest frequency about (.). Blood cancer records are (.).Renal cancer records are (.).Skin cancer cases are the least frequency (.).(TABLE ) According to systemic involved; the present study shows among male gender, Blood, Lung, Brain top three cancer cases followed prostatic cancer. Among female gender Blood, Breast, Uterus top three cases, also there lung cancer cases were at increased cases at. 4 Cancer Registry Cases in Tikrit Teaching Hospital for The Last Ten Years () Discussion Our study basically depend on the histopathological confirmed cases registered in Tikrit Teaching Hospital. This does not mean that all cancer cases in Tikrit have been dealt with, because of many reasons :cancer patient tend to go to Baghdad directly especially were treatment were restricted in Nuclear Medicine Institute, patients living near big cities like Baghdad, Kirkuk may prefer to go to these places, failure to detect cases who died without either confirmation of disease during life or any autopsy &the presence of consultant who deals with specific cancer types lead to increase the number of cases for that organ, therefore absence of such consultant may effect the number of patients examined particularly with inaccessible cancers. A review on patient cancer records can assess the magnitude of the illness in Salah eldin & its effect in damaging civilians health, as study done by Al Ali J. in Basra (). Cancer diagnosis was based on histopathological confirmation in of cases, whereas the rest diagnosis was based on radiological examination, other specific laboratory investigation & on clinical grounds(). There are problems in patients cancer records because; cancer patient tends to go to Baghdad directly where treatment restricted in Nuclear Medicine Institute: histopathological confirmation of disease during life & autopsy; cooperation of private hospital & laboratories & inefficient health workers in hospital statistic units in denoting full information regarding patient likes {smoking, occupation, exposure to pollutant }(). In Tikrit Teaching Hospital available cancer records shows male are (.) of total &(.) females, the frequency high in males which is in agreement with study done by Al Fouadi A. in Iraq,he had found male=. & females =. (). Cancer is a major cause o f death & morbidity in older persons, more than of cancer occurring in persons older than years (,).Childhood cancer registry of the present study is. so should pay attention for this age group. The annual number of cancer cases registered in shows interrupted forms during this period exactly as previous registration done in Baghdad (,). This could be explained by unusual situation in the country. Present status of cancer showed: gastrointestinal tract, blood, renal system are the main top three cancer registered. In regarding lung cancer it ranks common cancer in male & is increased in alarming way among women ().This may be related to improve means of diagnosis lung disease & smoking habits among women. There was an increase in the frequency of blood cancer in both genders, it ranks seventh within the commonest ten cancer in & fourth within () Breast cancer showed declined number among number among last ten years: cases in & only cases in, this may be due to breast lump early detection by selfbreastexamination & high equipment investigation technique available in T.T.H.. In disagreement with result of National cancer registry found that during were cases & up to cases at (). So our opinion likes Dr. Najar H. in that, setting abreast unite that provides assessment service & commencing definite treatment within days combined with easy booking (). Skin cancer records are only., disagree with cancer registry in Salahaddin results during.skin cancers are. within commonest ten cancers ().This difference could be explained by deficient dermatologist in T.T.H. There isn t lymphatic cancer among females, this confirm incomplete information & unskilled health workers in statistic unite in T.T.H. As a conclusion, the present report illustrates cancer registration in Salahaddin province, the results established project team to improve patient care, case detection & registration to reach map cases & identify possible risk factors & possible environmental pollutants.
